Help build a house in Newcastle NSW

I'm looking for someone with construction experience to come and help build our house in Waratah, Newcastle, NSW. The work changes but could include:

• carpentry,
• painting,
• demolition,
• site cleaning,
• moving scaffold,
• Installing fixtures,
• and other building / construction tasks.

Ideally we are looking for someone who can work up a ladder or scaffold, has construction experience and is available for 3-12 months.

We live in Waratah, a suburb of Newcastle. Over the past 4 years, we've had lots of volunteers from all over the world through Worldpackers Workaway and HelpX help us build the house. Now we are looking for someone to stay a bit longer and work part time for between 2 months and a year to finish the project off.

This isn't a usual construction job. You won't just show up and leave after work — We are looking for someone to join the house, be part of the build, working alongside us and becoming part of our daily life.

There are 2 options we are thinking of:

• Homestay: Food & Accommodation for 20hrs/wk + $200/8hr day after that

Come and stay with us, join our family while we do the project together. We share meals, ideas, and work through the project together. It's more about joining a family project than just a job. We provide your accommodation, food, etc. Min 24hrs week - Max 6 days/week.

In this option we would be available to work with you more of the time normally about 50% of the time we will be working together. You don't need to be quite as experienced in this model as I can teach you as we go.

We pay you for your work hours after the first 16+4 hours, 16hrs working on the house + 4 hours housekeeping (housekeeping is things we all do together like cooking, cleaning, emptying the dishwasher, keeping the bathroom clean, etc).

You get:

• Your own private room,
• All basic meals (Breakfast/lunch/dinner - BYO chocolate, snacks, alcohol, etc)
• Flexibility around how many hours work each week you do (I suggest aiming for 5 x 8hr days)
• Part Time Job: up to 5 x 8hr days work between $22-25/hr based on experience

Come and work for us like a regular job, turning up in the morning and leaving at night - find your own accommodation and arrange your own food, etc. In this option we will pay you in the normal way like a job (paid each month) for the days/hours you work. Min 2 days/week - Max 5 days/week.

In this option we would be looking for:

2-5 days per week in a semi-autonomous fashion.

prior construction experience

ability to solve problems and work on their own about 2/3 of the time.

In either option we can be flexible with the days you work so you can arrange other parts of life - its not all about working I know ;)

Ideally we're looking for someone with building or trade experience to work for at least a few months but up to 1 year if you're hardworking and we get on. The work changes but could include cladding, carpentry, painting, and other renovation tasks. Someone who can work up a ladder or scaffold, has some life experience and makes good conversation.

Our place is about 1km to the train station, 800m to the Local supermarket and also close to the Matar hospital. We have bikes you can use to get to the beaches, etc.
