Northern Health are seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced Registered Nurse/Midwife to join the Maternity department as a Associate Midwifery Unit Manager

Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne's rapidly growing outer north.

Services are provided through our five main campuses:

Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn Centre, and Kilmore District Hospital. In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park and Coburg.

About the Role:

The role of the Associate Midwife/Nurse Unit Manager (AMUM) plays a pivotal leadership and clinical role within the Postnatal Maternity Ward, working in partnership with the Midwife Unit Manager to ensure the delivery of high-quality, safe, and woman-centred postnatal care.

This role is responsible for and requires a commitment to fostering a positive and supportive environment for both patients and staff, promoting evidence-based care, clinical governance, and professional development. The AMUM advocates for women and their families, ensuring that care is culturally sensitive, respectful, and aligned with individual needs and preferences during the postnatal period.

The AMUM provides day-to-day operational leadership, supporting midwifery and multidisciplinary staff in the coordination, evaluation, and continuous improvement of postnatal services. The role includes oversight of staffing, clinical standards, patient flow, and resource management while maintaining a strong clinical presence and modelling best midwifery practice.

The AMUM acts as a role model in upholding the values of the organisation, demonstrating leadership, integrity, and accountability, and contributes to strategic planning, quality initiatives, and service development within the maternity service.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Minimum 4 years' experience as a Registered Nurse/Midwife or Clinical Nurse / Midwifery Specialist
  • Level 3 FSEP
  • Accredited to complete baby checks

  • Proven ability to work within a team

  • Demonstrated effective communication skills and able to understand the scope of the role
  • Must be able to demonstrate sound clinical assessments and analysis, and implement indicated treatments
  • Must be able to work a rotating roster, including day, evening and night duty shifts
  • Demonstrated understanding of the principals of both Management and Leadership
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the principles of access management and effective patient flow
