About Us
Apate.AI is an innovative cybersecurity start-up at the forefront of scam prevention. We craft advanced conversational AI to create a safer digital world. Our flagship products, Apate Voice, Apate Text, and Apate Insights, are powered by lifelike AI personas that engage with scammers to protect users and gather intelligence.
As a spin-out from Macquarie University, we collaborate with telcos, financial institutions, and law enforcement to disrupt global fraud. At our core, we are passionate about using technology to protect people, and creating an intuitive and seamless user experience is paramount to our success.
About the Role
We are seeking a passionate and talented UX/UI Designer to be the chief advocate for our users. In this role, you will own the entire design process, from initial research and user journey mapping to creating beautiful, high-fidelity prototypes and interfaces.
You will be the voice of the user in every conversation, ensuring that our products are not only powerful but also intuitive, accessible, and a pleasure to use. You will work in a highly collaborative environment with product managers and engineers to shape the future of our user-facing applications and have a foundational impact on our mission to protect people from scams.
Responsibilities
- User Research & Analysis: Conduct user research, interviews, and usability testing to understand user behaviors, needs, and pain points. Translate findings into actionable design insights.
- Journey Mapping & Flows: Create user personas, journey maps, and user flows to articulate the complete user experience and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Wireframing & Prototyping: Develop everything from low-fidelity wireframes to high-fidelity, interactive prototypes for new features and products.
- UI & Visual Design: Design clean, visually appealing, and intuitive user interfaces that align with our brand and design system.
- Design System Management: Build, maintain, and champion a comprehensive design system to ensure consistency, quality, and efficiency across all our products.
- Collaborative Design: Work closely with software engineers to ensure your designs are implemented to the highest standard and provide them with clear design specifications.
- Iterate & Improve: Use data and user feedback to continually iterate on and improve the product experience.
Required Experience
- Proven experience as a UX/UI Designer, Product Designer, or similar role (3+ years recommended).
- A strong portfolio showcasing your end-to-end design process, from research and ideation to final visual design and impact.
- Proficiency with modern design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD).
- Demonstrated experience in conducting user research, usability testing, and synthesizing results.
- A deep understanding of user-centered design principles, accessibility standards (WCAG), and interaction design.
- Excellent visual design skills with a keen eye for typography, color, and layout.
- Ability to communicate design concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A proactive, user-obsessed mindset and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, startup environment.
Preferred Experience
- Experience designing products in the cybersecurity or anti-fraud space.
- Experience designing for complex data visualizations or AI-driven products.
- Familiarity with working in an agile/scrum development process.
- Experience creating or managing a mature design system from the ground up.
- Familiarity with user-centered design processes and working with prototyping tools like Figma.
Why Join Us?
- Be part of a mission-driven team tackling global scam and fraud challenges
- Work on technically interesting problems with modern frameworks and cloud platforms
- Flexible work arrangements (hybrid or remote)
- Opportunity to contribute to real-world impact in collaboration with industry and law enforcement
- Zero bureaucracy, real impact
- Work directly with founders and researchers from day one
