What we are looking for
At Geoscience Australia, people are at the heart of everything we do. Our work takes us across Australia, Antarctica, and the Pacific region, from specialised laboratories to remote field sites on land and sea. These environments are diverse and often challenging, including work with organic materials, ionising and non-ionising radiation sources, dangerous chemicals, plant, and machinery. Keeping our people safe, supported, and able to do their best work is our priority.
We are strengthening our approach to safety and are looking for WHS professionals who bring both operational experience and a contemporary people-centred mindset. You will play a key role in shaping and embedding the WHS pillar of the Geoscience Australia People and Culture Strategy 2028, helping us to build a culture where safety is not just managed, it is lived, shared, and continuously improved. We are looking to create a merit pool which can be used to fill multiple vacancies. We are looking for people with WHS capability in the following areas:
· Supporting business areas in identifying, assessing, and managing risks in a way that is practical and connected to the way people work.
· Providing advice and subject matter expertise on WHS matters, enabling leaders and teams to make informed safety decisions.
· Designing and delivering training that connects with how people actually work
· Leading and supporting incident investigations that focus on learning
· Strengthening emergency management systems that empower people to respond with confidence
· Embedding wellbeing and psychological safety, so our people feel safe to speak up and supported to thrive.
· Supporting field teams by maintaining emergency communication links and helping to ensure their wellbeing and confidence while working remotely.
· All successful candidates (except for the wellbeing and psychological safety candidates) will be expected to join an on-call roster which operates 24/7 to support Geoscience Australia's field operations.
