Ferrycarrig are a civil/utilities company with approximately 200 staff operating in NSW. Ferrycarrig currently work across 1215 work sites around NSW. The position of diesel mechanic involves working on a multidisciplinary team of mechanics and plant drivers to ensure the upkeep of the entire fleet and adhoc work in the yard. The plant department has approximately 150 large items of plant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel engines and related systems
  • Perform routine maintenance on trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment
  • Inspect engines, transmissions, brakes, and other mechanical systems
  • Maintain accurate service records and documentation
  • Ensure all work meets safety and environmental regulations
  • Work independently and/or as part of a team to complete tasks efficiently
  • Ensure the plant fleet and company vehicles are at a satisfactory safety level at all times.
  • Perform any minor and major repairs on all company vehicles.
  • Conduct regular preventative maintenance on service trucks, including inspection, tyre rotation and oil changes.
  • Collaborate with the entire Plant & Yard team to diagnose problems with vehicles and to plan repairs.
  • Repairing any damaged parts, units, malfunctions or deficiencies with the vehicles or machinery in an efficient and cost effective manner.
  • Communicate with vehicles/machine operators
  • Running diagnostic tests on vehicles.
  • Analyzing diagnostic test results.
  • Replacing vehicle engines, steering mechanisms, transmissions and braking systems.
  • Checking vehicle lighting systems.
  • Test driving vehicles to gauge performance.
  • Performing preventative maintenance on service trucks.
  • Maintaining detailed records of serviced vehicles.
  • Adhering to an inspection procedure checklist.
  • Maintaining a parts inventory.
  • Ensuring the cleanliness of the yard and workshop.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a diesel mechanic (5+ years preferred)
  • Knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, and diagnostics
  • Ability to use diagnostic tools and repair equipment
  • Strong attention to detail and problem solving skills
  • Must be dependable, punctual, and safety minded
