The speech pathology department at Sydney Children's Hospital is a progressive an innovative place to work. We are a large team providing community, outreach and specialist hospital services with a strong emphasis on evidence based practice, family centred care and embedded clinical research.
The primary purpose of this role is to provide a high quality speech pathology service to children and young people and their carers to ensure optimal health outcomes. This encompasses ensuring effective and efficient assessment and intervention in a multidisciplinary setting. The speech pathologist is also responsible for undertaking designated non-clinical tasks to support service delivery including clinical supervision, quality improvement activities and administrative tasks, Assessment and management of communication and/or feeding/swallowing disorders, liaison with preschools/schools and other agencies as required, recording of all patient interactions in eMR, participation in department supervision and department administrative duties.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced level 1/2 speech pathologist to join the Speech Pathology department at Sydney Children's Hospital working in paediatric rehabilitation. The position is permanent part time (16 hours per week) working with the multidisciplinary team in Rehab2Kids, providing services for children with an acquired brain injury. This position would suit a clinician who has demonstrated experience in communication diagnostic assessment and intervention and working with children who have a disability
About You
Describe the qualities and attributes of an ideal candidate, followed by specific skills and qualifications.
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Speech Pathology with eligibility for membership of Speech Pathology Australia
- Demonstrated experience in the assessment, diagnosis and management of paediatric communication and feeding disorders across a range of service delivery models and settings.
- Knowledge of functional communication assessment and management in the context of a paediatric disability caseload.
- Knowledge of the impact of paediatric brain injury on communication and feeding/swallowing development.
- Demonstrated effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills including the ability to adapt communication style to suit different audiences
- Demonstrated ability to analyse problems, set priorities and apply a range of options to develop solutions.
- Demonstrated commitment to professional development, evidence-based practice and continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team
