Our client is a listed, renewable energy-powered data center business supporting high-performance computing workloads – spanning Bitcoin mining and AI infrastructure.
Headquartered in Sydney with operations across North America and Asia-Pacific, we are scaling a global platform at the intersection of digital infrastructure, sustainability and frontier technology.
Following our strategic shift towards AI data center hosting, we are looking to strengthen their Risk and Compliance function in Sydney.
Overview
Based in Sydney, this role will report to the Head of Risk and Compliance and will serve as a primary interface with the Global Risk, Compliance and Audit community.
You will lead oversight across a broad set of Risk and Compliance domains relevant to a listed, multi-jurisdictional, data center and technology business.
This position is suited to someone who thrives in a lean, entrepreneurial environment and is able to influence and engage credibly with executives, regulators, auditors and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Accountability for group incident and breach management, including:
- Coordinating response processes across jurisdictions and business units.
- Ensuring regulatory and contractual breach reporting obligations are met.
- Capturing root causes, lessons learned, and integrating into risk/compliance frameworks.
- Maintain central frameworks, policies, and obligation registers.
- Provide oversight, challenge, and assurance on BU compliance performance.
- Escalate and report material compliance risks to senior leadership and the Board.
- SEC and SOX obligations
- Health & Safety (OSHA, WHS, WorkSafe BC)
- Employment law and workplace rights (US, Canada, Australia)
- Immigration / visa compliance
- Licensing and permits (corporate, operational, construction, data center operations)
- Privacy and data protection – APPs, PIPEDA, US state/federal regimes, GDPR
- Climate and sustainability reporting – SEC climate, ISSB, Australian frameworks
- Industry standards and codes – ISO, COSO, NIST, modern slavery, anti-bribery, cyber frameworks
What We're Looking For
- Compliance Experience:
Proven ability to uplift compliance frameworks and operationalise them effectively, ensuring they are embedded and demonstrably effective. - Risk Management Experience:
Skilled at assessing and testing effectiveness of compliance frameworks, including controls, policies, registers, and reporting processes. - Regulatory Experience:
Strong regulatory awareness and horizon-scanning capability; able to translate new or changing requirements into business-friendly, effective solutions. - Obligations / Standards Experience:
SEC/SOX & ISO 31000 / COSO - Commercial Acumen:
Comfortable speaking with conviction and preparing high-quality compliance and risk reporting for Audit & Risk Committee and the Board. - Presentation & Storytelling
: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to distill technical information into clear messaging.
Preferred Background
- Bachelor's degree in finance, Economics, Business, or related field.
- Circa 7–12 years of relevant experience in Risk Management and/or Compliance
- Experience in or exposure to listed infrastructure, renewable energy, or data centre businesses advantageous, but not essential
- Familiarity with SEC/SOX obligations and industry standards including ISO31000, COSO, Modern Slavery etc.
