The Safeguards Aboriginal Mental Health Clinician (AMHC) will provide high quality evidence based clinical services including assessment, care co-ordination, intervention, liaison and clinical review as part of a multidisciplinary team for children, adolescents and young people (0-17 years) referred to Safeguards with a mental illness or disorder.

Safeguards is a specific multi-disciplinary program within community mental health providing early and brief crisis interventions for children, adolescents and young people experiencing acute mental health distress. The Safeguards AMHC, works within the multidisciplinary team and in partnership with other government and non-government community based service providers to deliver flexible, brief and systemic evidence-based interventions. Such interventions may include individual, family, parenting and group therapy. Interventions may be delivered in collaboration with wider community support systems such as Department of Education and Department of Communities and Justice with an aim to facilitate timely and equitable access to treatment. These interventions will be based on an appropriate model of practice as specified by the successful applicants professional discipline, background, skills, and experience and will be informed by evidence-based practice to promote culturally responsive care.
