St Brigid's Primary School, Middle Swan is a double stream co-educational school, catering for students from Pre Kindergarten to Year 6. Our committed and enthusiastic staff work closely together to provide a collaborative and supportive learning and teaching environment. The successful applicant will enjoy working in a team environment, have a passion for education and possess the initiative required to work successfully in a primary school setting. We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Year 4 teacher. This is a temporary full-time position covering maternity leave commencing Monday 15 September 2025 and concluding 31 December 2025, with the possibility of a further 12 months. The successful applicant must be qualified, live out their faith in their daily lives and be passionate about students' learning and development.
OVERVIEW
All teachers are role models for students, exemplifying Catholic teachings and values in their lives and in their actions. The Teacher will encourage supportive, inclusive learning environments and model the Gospel values through everyday interactions with parents, caregivers, children, and colleagues in our school setting. The Teacher is accountable to the Principal and Leadership Team to deliver teaching and learning programs in accordance with school expectations and system requirements.
The Teacher will participate in continuing education and professional development activities such as training sessions, workshops, coaching and informational meetings to meet the required qualifications and competencies (including CEWA accreditation requirements). Teachers will strive for ongoing professional excellence by participating in reflective practice and engaging in Goal Setting meetings with the Leadership Team. They will keep up to date with the latest educational trends and research and will participate in formal and informal professional development with the aim of ongoing improvement. The Teacher is responsible for the maintenance of their own professional needs such as, TRBWA, Accreditation, AITSL Standards and WWC clearances.
ROLE DESCRIPTION
The Teacher is responsible for planning, teaching, and assessment of their relevant learning areas. The majority of teaching requires the teacher to be active and on their feet for a large majority of the day.
Duties and responsibilities of the Teacher include but are not limited to:
1. Personalised Education
1.1. Teaching and Learning
- Have a thorough knowledge of your subject(s) and be prepared to extend this knowledge through professional learning, feedback conversations with colleagues/leadership, collaboration with colleagues, research, and participation in external professional networks and/or events.
- Apply this knowledge and effective teaching strategies to develop engaging learning activities and organise content into coherent, well-sequenced programs that meet the requirements of the WA curriculum and meet school expectations.
- Preparation and uploading of programming documents, meeting the school's expectations, and set deadlines.
- Work collaboratively with other classroom teachers to design and implement learning resources which may include the integration of technology to enhance learning.
- Engage students in rich, differentiated learning experiences that facilitate understanding, discovery, reflection, and application, including students requiring extensive adjustments.
- Work to support the inclusion of students with complex learning profiles through the development and implementation of highly individualised learning plans.
- Collaborate with other teachers to develop appropriate differentiated and individualised learning experiences that develop knowledge, skills, problem solving and critical and creative thinking sharing inclusive pedagogy.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the types of assessment that promote learning and reflection in students.
- Set and maintain clear expectations for students and promote learning as a rich and lifelong experience.
- Support the school Leadership Team in maintaining a positive and stimulating learning environment.
- Facilitate a weekly class sport session, supporting the Physical Education program.
1.2. The individual needs of students
- Provide a high level of pastoral care and nurture the wellbeing of all students.
- Enact your duty of care for students, including playground duty.
- Communicate regularly with other staff, including specialist teachers, education assistants and the school leadership team, and external stakeholders such as therapists, regarding student needs.
- Develop knowledge and understanding of individual students to enhance their learning and connectedness to the school.
- Collect, analyse, and utilise student data to enhance build on prior knowledge and enhance learning, through differentiating assessment and implementation.
- Understand the processes to identify specific learning needs for individual students and work within set guidelines to facilitate a differentiated approach that enables personalised education, through Individual Learning Plans.
- Develop and implement Individual Behaviour Plans, specifically collecting data measuring progress and reviewing plans.
1.3. Classroom Practice
- Promote and integrate Catholic Values through their teaching.
- Create and maintain a safe, vibrant, and engaging learning environment inclusive of a range of diversity.
- Teach in a manner that is effective for engaged student learning.
- Support the wellbeing approach of the school through classroom practice.
- Set and maintain clear behavioural and learning expectations for students in line with policies and procedures, differentiating for complex presentations.
1.4. Assessment and Reporting
- Complete all requirements in relation to the marking of student work and assessment tasks and provide feedback in an effective, professional, and timely manner.
- Complete all academic reporting requirements in an accurate, timely and efficient manner.
- Undertake all assessments as listed in the school's assessment schedule and engage in data-driven conversations for continued improvement.
- Differentiating these to show progress of all learners.
1.5. Provide support to students in the management of daily routine
- Develop positive relationships with students to assist their understanding of classroom procedures and encourage an organised and safe approach to daily routine.
- Set and apply clear expectations for students in support of the school uniform and conduct standards and monitor this daily.
- Communicate regularly with the school Leadership Team to ensure that students are provided with appropriate, accurate and timely information.
1.6. Effective administration related to students and learning
- Ensure that attendance marking procedures for attendance are fulfilled according to school expectations.
- Support the administrative needs of the school Leadership Team as required when preparing for programs and events outside the normal routine.
- Maintain accurate records of communication through SEQTA in relation to student issues and ensure the security and confidentiality of information.
- Complete the necessary tasks such as planning, marking, lesson preparation, data analysis, administrative duties, and meetings during DOTT (Duties Other Than Teaching) time.
2 People and Culture
- Uphold the values and expectations as described in the school's Code of Conduct.
- Actively promote student engagement.
- Demonstrate a growth mindset that shows a commitment to professional growth aligned to the AITSL Professional Standards.
- Enhance skills and knowledge through participation in professional learning programs that support and advance best practice.
- Support colleagues in their ongoing professional learning journey by sharing resources and expertise and providing/receiving constructive feedback.
3 . Community
3.1. Maintain the Catholic ethos in the school
- To help ensure the provision of the Catholic religious perspective, in the teaching and learning process and in all the activities of the school in which staff and students engage.
- To provide a Catholic leadership role by example, for all members of the school community.
- To help maintain an atmosphere of charity and justice within the school, as would be expected in a Catholic community.
- To participate actively in the life of the Church and to have a pastoral concern for each individual student.
- To share in the planning and organisation of appropriate prayer reflections, masses and liturgies for class, school, and staff.
- To be alert and conscientious in enforcing policies and procedures, particularly regarding the behaviour and general conduct of students.
- To help promote a team spirit among the staff by genuinely caring for each other, sharing success and disappointment relating to classroom management and teaching strategies, meeting socially when appropriate etc.
3.2 Leadership and participation
- Take ownership, participate, and engage in faith formation and ensure that all Accreditation requirements are fulfilled.
- Take ownership, participate, and engage students in school activities.
- Contribute wholeheartedly to the life of the school, including involvement in extra-curricular activities.
- To help foster good relations between the community and the school and to help involve parents in work and activities of the school.
- Attend a weekly 60-minute Professional Learning Community Meeting (PLCM), at which school priorities and student data are discussed.
- Collaborate in the development of school plans and initiatives.
- Participate in staff appraisal processes, such as Programming and Goal Setting Meetings, with openness and a desire for continual professional growth.
3.3. Communication
- Communicate effectively and respectfully with students, parents, and staff in relation to both academic and pastoral matters as required.
- Inform the school Leadership Team of significant pastoral care and academic matters.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with stakeholders (e.g., school psychologist, CEWA consultants) including therapists and external providers.
- Be accessible at reasonable times to students when assistance or guidance is sought.
- Respond to parent enquiries in a professional, timely and efficient manner.
- Attend parent-teacher/parent-teacher-student meetings, and other school community events as required.
- Contribute to the development of policy, procedures and processes and provide recommendations to the school Leadership Team for improvement.
3.4. Risk Management
- Report directly to the Principal on any matters relating to Child Protection.
- Assist in monitoring a safe and secure school environment for students and staff.
- Participate in training, preparation, and practice for responding to accidents, emergencies or other threats to safety or security of student, staff or other members of the school community.
4. Sustainability
- Promote a positive attitude towards consideration, care and sustainability of the environment.
- Work collaboratively with community members in the use and distribution of resources.
- Use resources effectively to support learning outcomes.
• Relevant 4 year tertiary qualification in Primary Education
• Be able to demonstrate a successful record of teaching and administrative experience.
