The role:
Sims Metal is seeking an experienced Electrical Project Engineer to contribute to and manage capital projects across Australia and New Zealand. This role focuses on implementing detailed electrical work instructions for new installations, covering investigation, budgeting, design, drafting, equipment procurement, installation supervision, and commissioning. You will play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to a high-quality standard.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and contribute to engineering projects, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, and commissioning of new plant and equipment.
- Review plant, equipment, and processes to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Produce detailed project schedules, assign tasks to contractors, and oversee installation activities.
- Ensure compliance with Australian and New Zealand electrical standards, safety regulations, and Sims Metal Critical Risks.
- Collaborate with commissioning teams and operations to ensure smooth handover of assets.
- Maintain project documentation, drawings, and manuals within Sims Metal systems.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, productivity, and material recovery.
About You:
- Degree qualified in field of Electrical Engineering, or holder of an unrestricted electrical licence, or equivalent level of experience
- Minimum 3 years' industrial site electrical experience, with knowledge of SCADA and PLC systems.
- Strong understanding of electrical design, installation, and safety in a fixed plant environment.
- Excellent project management, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage contractors, and act decisively under minimal supervision.
- Willingness to travel across Australia and New Zealand as required.
