Position Information

Evans High School, is a comprehensive, co-educational secondary school has served the South Blacktown community since 1973. The school caters for over 840 students with 4% of students of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds and 70% Language Other than English and 28% EAL/D learners. The complexity of our setting includes Y7-12 comprehensive setting, the largest Intensive English Centre with an enrolment of over 300 students, a Support Unit with 4 classes addressing Autism and a Return to School Centre servicing Western Sydney. We provide a broad curriculum, including the full range of academic subjects as well as a number of vocational education pathways to ensure all students have the opportunity to achieve their career pathways. We undertake the compressed model of delivery of the HSC with both Year 11 and 12 studying together over three subjects each year - completing Preliminary and the HSC in that one year. This has had a hugely positive impact on HSC performance including Band 5 and 6 achievement and ATAR levels.

Selection Criteria

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements of Society and Culture and Junior HSIE for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,

  1. Demonstrated ability to implement evidence-based practices, NESA and Departmental curriculum and assessment policies that cater for diverse learners and to improve student engagement, achievement, and literacy within a range subjects in a HSIE faculty.

  2. Proven capacity to build a strong team culture through collaboration, mentorship and support for professional growth.

  3. Demonstrated ability to lead as a Faculty Head Teacher and a member of the school's Executive to influence whole-school initiatives, drive cross-curricula collaboration, and establish innovative partnerships that extend and enrich learning opportunities in HSIE.

  4. Proven ability to manage the day-to-day operations of a HSIE faculty that works towards supporting the School Excellence Plan and inline with Departmental policy.

  5. Proven capacity to inspire students and staff, raising the profile of HSIE and extending opportunities for high potential and gifted (HPGE) learners both within the school and the wider community

General Selection Criteria
  1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice

  2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs

  3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams

  4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents

  5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning

  6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
