Team Leader Customer and Business Services
2 days ago
As Team Leader Customer and Business Services, you will lead the team that is often the first point of contact for our community. This role is about more than service delivery – it's about setting the standard for professionalism, building a positive culture, and ensuring Council's services are accessible, efficient and welcoming.
About Us
Working with us means more than just a job – it's an opportunity to make a real difference at a local level. We're a small but impactful council known for innovation, collaboration, and community connection. With around 160 dedicated employees, our team is passionate about delivering services that support the people and places that make our shire special.
Bellingen Shire is a picturesque and diverse area located on the Mid North Coast of NSW, halfway between Sydney and Brisbane and just south of Coffs Harbour. Covering 1,605 square kilometres with around 10km of coastline, the region is renowned for its stunning natural beauty – from lush rainforests and pristine rivers to the World Heritage-listed Dorrigo National Park. Our towns and villages are known for their charm, creativity and strong community spirit.
Living and working here offers the perfect blend of lifestyle and purpose. With a focus on sustainability, cultural richness, and a warm, welcoming community, Bellingen Shire is an inspiring place to grow your career, enjoy work-life balance, and contribute to something meaningful.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Group Leader Community Partnerships, the Team Leader Customer and Business Services will lead the frontline team responsible for delivering outstanding customer service to the community. This role oversees Council's telephone switchboard, customer service counters, and internal business support services, ensuring high standards of responsiveness, professionalism, and efficiency. You'll also play a key role in fostering a positive customer-focused culture across Council and championing service improvements that benefit both the community and internal stakeholders.
To succeed in this role, you will bring a strong foundation of experience in customer service leadership, ideally supported by a Certificate IV in Frontline Management, Human Resources, or Customer Service. Your background will include supervisory experience within customer service environments, proven capability in cash handling and reconciliation, and familiarity with business processes such as document management systems. Experience in Local Government will be highly regarded, but not essential.
This position calls for a leader with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, who can coach and motivate others to deliver quality service. You'll need to be highly organised, with strong problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and a professional approach to managing complaints and conflict. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and knowledge of recordkeeping requirements under the State Records Act will also support your success in this role.
