- Help deliver strong portfolio outcomes for the Group and its stakeholders.
Do work that matters
The Chief Investment Office (CIO) is a global team within Group Treasury responsible for managing the Group's non‑traded market risks—interest rate, foreign exchange, and credit spread—arising from lending and deposit-taking activities, as well as the investment of the CBA Group's liquid assets and shareholders funds.
See yourself in our team
We are the Liquid Investments team within CIO, responsible for investing the Group's liquid asset portfolio. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the strategy behind the Group's liquidity management—navigating global markets while ensuring compliance with prudential requirements. You'll gain exposure to a diverse range of investments, from domestic and offshore Government and Semi‑Government securities to supranational, sovereign and agency (SSA) securities and credit. If you're looking to apply your expertise in a collaborative, high‑impact environment where your work drives meaningful outcomes, this role offers scope for growth and development.
In this role
The Portfolio Manager will play a key role in the holistic management of the Group Investment Portfolio. Your analytical expertise and strategic focus will enhance team performance, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and the achievement of portfolio objectives. You'll work closely with the broader CIO team and engage regularly with internal stakeholders across funding and liquidity, analytics, capital optimisation, risk, finance, and credit. The role combines analytical rigour with market‑facing responsibilities and involves continuous process improvement, leveraging new tools, and building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Key responsibilities
- Manage portfolio reporting, including trade entry, position keeping, financial forecasting, and desk administration.
- Deliver analysis and insights on market themes, portfolio projections, investment strategy, performance, and regulatory change.
- Leverage AI tools to drive process improvements and productivity gains that enhance desk analytics.
- Develop reliable, accurate, and robust pricing tools in partnership with analytics and technology.
- Manage risk positions across relevant securities and derivative markets, ensuring best execution aligned with desk strategy.
- Liaise with the global CIO team and broader Treasury to support portfolio initiatives and Group Treasury requirements.
- Ensure adherence to the Group Treasury framework, dealing delegations, and all relevant compliance requirements.
- Uphold the Code of Conduct, which sets the standards of behaviour, actions, and decisions we expect from our people.
About you
- Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Economics, or Mathematics (postgraduate qualifications highly regarded).
- 3–5 years' experience in an analytical, market‑facing role with exposure to funding, securities, and derivative markets; Treasury, banking, or funds management preferred.
- Advanced modelling skills in VBA, SQL, and Python; data visualisation skills highly valued.
- Strong understanding of bond and derivative pricing and relative value methodologies.
- Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to interpret and analyse large data sets.
- Genuine interest in global macroeconomic themes and their application to markets and portfolio decision‑making.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to work effectively across diverse teams.
- Experience with Murex and Bloomberg highly regarded.
- A risk mindset—proactively identify, understand, and act on current and emerging risks.
