Greater Adelaide SA, Australia Fleet Space Technologies Full time $120,000 - $180,000 per year

Description: This role is based in Adelaide, ideally with hybrid working in our HQ next to Adelaide airport but we are open to candidates based in other states with regular travel.

Fleet Space Technologies is revolutionizing mineral exploration through space-enabled technology, and we need an exceptional HSE Lead to ensure our ambitious mission is delivered safely and sustainably. As we rapidly scale our global operations - from launching satellites to deploying exploration teams in remote locations and preparing for lunar missions - safety excellence is paramount to our success.

You'll be leading and managing Fleet's global Health, Safety, and Environment framework across our diverse operations, from cutting-edge field exploration activities using our ExoSphere technology to satellite manufacturing facilities and offices spanning multiple continents. This is a unique opportunity to build a world-class safety culture at a company that's literally reaching for the stars.

As our HSE Lead, you'll work directly with teams operating in some of Earth's most challenging environments while supporting groundbreaking space exploration missions. Your work will directly enable our teams to safely discover the critical minerals essential for humanity's clean energy future.

Role Responsibilities

HSE Management System Development:

  • Develop and implement a scalable, ISO-aligned HSE Management System (HSEMS) suitable for exploration, seismic acquisition, and warehousing activities
  • Create and maintain core documentation including Emergency Response plans and site-specific Safe Work Procedures
  • Oversee continuous improvement processes and system monitoring across global operations
  • Provide strategic direction to the HSE committee
Manage the HSE internal audit program and lead external audits

Risk and Hazard Management:

  • Conduct and oversee regular risk assessments and workplace inspections to proactively identify potential hazards
  • Implement corrective actions across field operations, warehouse facilities, and office environments
Develop risk mitigation strategies for our unique operational challenges from outback exploration to space technology

Contractor and Client Excellence:

  • Lead due diligence, onboarding, and approval of relevant third-party contractors, ensuring their safety systems and responsibilities are clearly defined
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients on all HSE matters, providing documentation for tenders, managing pre-mobilization meetings, and responding to audits
Manage safety risk associated with global third-party service delivery

Incident Management and Investigation:

  • Take charge of all incident and near-miss investigations using recognised methodologies (ICAM, Taproot)
  • Facilitate the investigation process from initial response through to implementation of corrective actions and case closure
Prepare comprehensive reports for both regulatory bodies and clients

HSE Training and Competency:

  • Design and deliver comprehensive HSE training programs for all employees, from new hire inductions to specialised competency-based training
  • Oversee the training matrix, license verification, and manage onboarding programs
Promote workplace culture and HSE awareness across our global teams

Compliance and Reporting:

  • Ensure full compliance with all local, state, federal, and international HSE regulations
  • Maintain accurate records and provide regular performance reports to senior management
  • Monitor safety regulatory updates and communicate changes to field and management teams
Provide ongoing support to operational leaders and field teams in delivering safe, compliant activities

Emergency Preparedness:

  • Develop, test, and maintain robust emergency response plans covering procedures for fire safety, first aid, and evacuations
Ensure readiness for operations in remote and challenging environments

Continuous Improvement:

  • Stay current with the latest industry trends, regulations, and best practices to drive continuous improvement in Fleet's HSE performance
Champion innovation in safety practices for space and exploration technologies

Role requirements

Essential:

  • A minimum of Certificate 4 but ideally Bachelors degree or higher in HSE/OHS, Risk Management, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 + years experience in HSE roles
  • Must have experience in Mining or Mineral exploration companies
  • Familiarity with field operations and remote site management
  • Certified Professional Membership (AIHS or equivalent)
  • Lead Auditor Certification in ISO 45001, 9001, and 14001
  • Proven experience establishing and managing HSE systems in complex operational environments
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Ability to influence and drive cultural change across diverse, global teams

Highly Desirable:

  • Cert IV Training & Assessment
  • Experience supporting remote logistics-based operations
  • Registered with an RTO or capacity to act as SME for site-required competencies
Working knowledge of international WHS frameworks and compliance in Africa, LATAM, and Middle East

About Fleet Space

Fleet Space Technologies vision from the beginning was to build technologies to help humanity explore and connect the Earth, Moon, and Mars.

This led us to develop and launch one of Australia's largest constellation of satellites, create our satellite-enabled mineral exploration technology (ExoSphere), and send Australia's first seismic technology (SPIDER) to the Moon in 2026. ExoSphere, our end-to-end mineral exploration solution powered by space and AI, aims to accelerate critical mineral discovery needed for the clean energy technologies foundational to humanity's clean energy future.

As part of Fleet's founding vision, we also apply our technology to innovative solutions for defense and space exploration, including an upcoming mission to the Moon. Headquartered in Adelaide, South Australia, Fleet has rapidly grown to over 160 employees including a growing team in the USA, Canada, and beyond.

We have raised over $200M AUD in venture funding, backed by premier investors including Blackbird, TVG, Grok, and In-Q-Tel including our most recent $150m Series D in December 2024, at a valuation of over $800m.

In 2023 we were recognised by the Australian Financial Review (AFR) as the #1 fastest growing technology company in Australia.
