People, Legal and Governance is a Group within the Department of Transport and Planning , and is responsible for providing business-enabling people and corporate services functions to drive a high-performance culture and to support integrated operations.
About the Role
This is a Fixed Term Position until 23 January 2026
As a Senior Advisor, Governance at the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP), you'll be central to shaping and delivering governance systems that support high-level decision-making across the department. Working within the Governance and Portfolio Services Division, you'll lead the design, implementation, and continual improvement of governance products and services. You'll also provide trusted strategic advice and secretariat support to senior stakeholders and governance bodies, while leading a small team and promoting strong collaboration across the department.

With a strong grasp of governance principles and experience in navigating risk and complexity, you'll be confident managing stakeholder relationships and delivering high-quality support and advice. Qualifications and Experience
To succeed in this role, you'll have a proven track record in governance and ideally experience supporting or acting as a board/committee secretariaty. A relevant tertiary qualification is desirable, along with membership in professional bodies such as the Australian Institute of Company Directors or the Governance Institute. Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement capabilities are essential, along with excellent communication and systems thinking skills.
This position will be required to undertake travel within metropolitan Melbourne and occasionally to regional Victorian locations to support committee meetings
