The Role
At Hypersonix, we're pioneering the future of high-speed flight with our scramjet-powered hypersonic aircraft. We're seeking a dynamic GNC and Avionics Lead to oversee the development and integration of advanced flight control systems and avionics across our aerospace vehicles. In this role, you'll lead and grow a high-performing team of engineers, championing technical excellence, fostering innovation, and ensuring successful project delivery from concept to flight.
Key responsibilities include:
- Partner with the Head of Engineering to grow a high-performing GNC & Avionics team to support hypersonic vehicle development and flight testing.
- Lead a multi-disciplinary team to develop, qualify and operate subsystems for flight control, guidance, navigation, communications, ground control, instrumentation and power.
- Deliver modelling and simulation tools and outputs to quantify vehicle performance, assess vehicle design trades, perform flight safety analysis, and inform requirements generation and compliance assessments.
- Conduct system architecture trades for current and future products.
- Act as the technical authority for GNC, software and avionics.
- Hold technical authority for GNC and Avionics in design reviews, non-conformance reviews, failure investigations etc.
- Oversee solutions which support design, integration, test and operational phases of the product lifecycle.
- Maintenance and upgrade of existing avionics test bed, HWIL test setup, SWIL infrastructure and other miscellaneous test assets.

To be successful in this role you will need:
- Proven experience in an engineering leadership role.
- Minimum 8 years of hands-on engineering experience in hypersonics, aircraft, or spacecraft programs.
- Deep domain knowledge in aerospace systems, including flight dynamics, control systems, embedded software, and avionics integration.
- Proficiency in simulation and modelling tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, and experience with real-time systems and flight software.
- Strong programming skills in C, C++, or similar languages.
- Familiarity with engineering tools such as Microsoft Office, Jira, and MS Project (or equivalents).
- Demonstrated ability to lead with a collaborative, hands-on approach and make agile, informed decisions.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
- Resilient and results-driven, with a logical approach to solving complex technical challenges.
- Detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple concurrent projects.
