Mater Research are looking for a Head of Education. This part time (15hrs per week) role will be based across our South Brisbane and TRI campus. The role is open to existing Mater Research academic staff only and will be offered for an initial three-year term.

The Head of Education at Mater Research provides strategic leadership and effective management of undergraduate and graduate research student placements. They foster excellence in student supports, research performance, and supervision across diverse campuses, promoting an inclusive, safe, and supportive environment.

Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits 

What you'll be doing

This Head of Education drives innovation and oversight in student administration processes to ensure a high-quality experience.

  • Lead the development and execution of strategic objectives for Mater Research's support of University level education programs
  • Drive initiatives to attract high-quality research students, grow students, grow Mater Research's student cohort, and enhance Mater's academic research reputation
  • Collaborate with key partners to advance strategic education initiatives
  • Lead or contribute to Government, UQ, and Health Sector submissions related to student matters
  • Support the Mater Student Research Committee to engage the next generation of health and medical researchers
  • Provide training and upskilling opportunities to ensure graduates have diversified and transferable skill sets
  • Act as the primary academic contact for student matters within the institute
  • Monitor Mater Research student performance metrics and contribute to student cohort reports
  • Foster a research education culture focused on high-quality student outcomes
  • Manage relationships with UQ HMBS Faculty, Research Office, and Graduate School for streamlined administrative pathways

About you

The ideal candidate will hold relevant scientific qualifications, including a Research Higher Degree and possess a minimum of 10 years of postdoctoral experience with notable contributions to research student education.
