About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate TAFE Counsellor to join our team on a 6-month maternity leave contract supporting students at South Regional TAFE.

The role provides short-term counselling, wellbeing support, and referral coordination for students experiencing personal, emotional, or academic challenges.

This position offers casual flexible hours (up to 19.5 per week) during school terms only, with the potential for job share.


Key Responsibilities


• Provide confidential counselling and wellbeing support to TAFE students.

• Conduct intake and needs assessments, and develop short-term support or action plans.

• Deliver crisis intervention and safety planning where required.

• Coordinate referrals to internal and external support services.

• Work collaboratively within and alongside the Student Services team at South Regional TAFE to enhance student wellbeing and retention.

• Participate in class talks, wellbeing initiatives, and critical incident responses as part of campus support.

• Assist with event coordination, guest speaking, and community engagement activities that promote mental health and wellbeing.

• Maintain accurate case notes and reporting in line with organisational and contractual requirements.

• Apply trauma-informed, strengths-based, and inclusive practice at all times.

• Demonstrate understanding of and responsiveness to the needs of CALD, disability, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.


About You


• Minimum Diploma of Counselling (or equivalent qualification in Counselling, Psychology, or Social Work).

• Experience providing counselling or wellbeing support in education, youth, or community settings.

• Demonstrated knowledge of trauma-informed practice, CALD engagement, disability inclusion, and Aboriginal cultural safety.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with students and staff.

• Strong organisational and record-keeping skills.

• Capacity to work independently while maintaining professional boundaries.

• Current Working with Children Check, National Police Clearance, and professional indemnity insurance.
