The Opportunity
The Future Fund legal team is the trusted advisor to our Agency and the Board of Guardians, supporting investment and operational activities. As a Law Clerk, you will work within the Commercial Contracting legal team under the guidance of the Legal Director, providing practical legal and administrative support across commercial advisory, procurement, and investment transaction matters.
This is a full-time position on an 18-month fixed term contract, offering an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience within the legal team of one of Australia's leading investment institutions.
The position is a full-time role for a non-ongoing period of 18 months.
Key Responsibilities
Key responsibilities will include:
- Assist in reviewing commercial agreements and helping to identify issues and, as required, also investment related documents such as confidentiality agreements.
- Work closely with Legal Counsels (Commercial Contracting) to provide support on commercial advice and contracts as needed
- Collate and organise investment transaction documentation, schedules, and annexures.
- Conduct internal legal research, with a focus on public sector legal obligations.
- Assist with document execution (DocuSign), filing, and agreement register management.
- Manage emails and team calls, ensuring timely, professional responses.
- Foster strong working relationships with internal teams (Legal, Procurement, Technology, Investment) and external stakeholders (legal panel firms, professional advisors, partners).
- Contribute to regulatory compliance and reporting
- Provide legal administrative and document management support to the team.
- Provide process support and assist the legal team with the matter management system and use of technology including AI.
About You
We're looking for a natural self-starter with a can-do attitude and who can manage tasks through to completion. Collaboration is at the heart of everything we do at the Future Fund, so you should be a willing listener as well as a passionate advocate for your ideas in a group or team setting.
You should also:
- Hold an Australian law degree (essential) and ideally be part way through or have completed supervised legal practice.
- Experience in a legal firm and/or financial services environment is desirable.
- Have excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills including the ability to liaise with stakeholders at all levels.
- Have a partnership approach to teamwork, display personal accountability, attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
