KPMG Law's highly regarded national team of Tax Dispute Resolution and Controversy specialists have extensive experience assisting organisations and individuals in preparing for, managing and resolving tax disputes, whilst maintaining an effective working relationship with revenue authorities. Our busy, dynamic and growing team are looking for lawyers who have experience in tax, tax law and tax disputes. KPMG Law's Tax Dispute Resolution & Controversy team are known as leading experts in this field and have been recognised in the legal 500 and International Tax Review (amongst others).

Your Opportunity

Joining KPMG Law, you will have the opportunity to be a key part of our growing team - who advise a broad range of clients including large multinationals, the Top 5,000 taxpayer population, high wealth individuals and respected clients on the many domestic and cross-border tax issues they are dealing with, in what is a rapidly changing world. The role will involve:

  • Working with our clients in preparing for and resolving their risk reviews, audits and disputes with the ATO, AusIndustry and State/ Territory revenue authorities, including working on complex ATO audits , preparing objections, briefing counsel and advising clients on ATO Risk Reviews, Audits, Independent Reviews, tax litigation.
  • You will have the opportunity to work with a range of clients and specialists across KPMG Law and KPMG to develop your written and oral advocacy skills and provide legal advice (including taxation law and administrative law).
  • KPMG Law's Tax Dispute Resolution & Controversy team works nationally on most engagements, so all team members have an opportunity to work across all jurisdictions with partners and team members from other states.
  • Collaboration with many other specialist groups across KPMG's Deals, Tax & Legal practice in Australia, as well as internationally (many clients are multinationals) is also a feature of many of the team's engagements.

Your Experience

  • Previous experience in corporate tax, international tax, tax law and/or tax dispute resolution and controversy in either an advisory or Big 4 professional services firm, a law firm or the Australian Taxation Office will be viewed favourable
  • Ability to manage multiple and concurrent complex projects, often through strong collaboration with cross-divisional/subject-matter specialists, and takes accountability for managing scope and delivering timely and quality deliverable
  • Ability to negotiate with high level of discretion with internal or external parties such as clients, government bodies and other organisations
  • Ability to establish relationship plans to build and sustain effective senior level management and board client relationships
  • Acts as a constructive leader and coach by participating in relevant culture initiatives, demonstrates a growth mindset, and contributes to building and enhancing the firm's culture
  • Ability to enable career progression for high-potential people by identifying development needs and provides guidance and knowledge to assist those people to further increase their skill set
  • Ability to establish and sustain strong professional presence in the marketplace by networking, speaking, authoring relevant articles and participating at a leadership level for external professional organisations
Qualifications

A degree in Accounting, Economics, Commerce, Finance or Law, and/or undertaking/completion of the CA/CPA.
