About The Role

Reporting to the General Counsel based in St Louis, you will lead the Australian legal team and work with senior leaders and project teams to deliver strategic legal advice and solutions that support Peabody's commercial and operational goals. This role is based in Brisbane and offers the opportunity to work on high impact matters.

Key responsibilities:

  • Oversight and management of legal services for the Australian Platform
  • Advise operations, finance, marketing, procurement, and infrastructure teams.
  • Advise on competition law issues and litigation.
  • Assist with other legal matters as directed by the General Counsel .

  • Advise management on policies and practices to minimize claims and litigation and assist in managing and defending asserted claims and lawsuits.

The lifestyle:

This position is offered on a Monday to Friday basis, working from our Fortitude Valley office with work from home options. Peabody offers flexible start / finish times and a 'redistributed working week' giving employees flexibility to finish at noon on Fridays.

About You:

We are looking for a pragmatic, commercially minded and collegiate lawyer who thrives in a fast-paced, hands on role. The successful candidate will have:

  • A degree in Law with a current Queensland practising certificate.
  • 15+ years of legal experience.
  • Previous legal team leadership
  • Experience in complex corporate transactions.
  • Project management skills and ownership of the work being performed.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of stakeholders and clients.
  • Strong business acumen, be solution focused and commercially minded.
  • Strong organizational, time management skills and attention to detail.
