About The Role
The RAS Heritage Centre tells the story of the Society since 1822 and preserves records that illuminate Australia's agricultural history. We're seeking a Records Archivist to design and implement a contemporary records management program across the RAS - covering appraisal, classification, transfer, retention and disposal, so our legal, fiscal and historical obligations are met and our collections remain discoverable for generations.
Partner with staff across business units, provide practical guidance and training, and lead initiatives that improve how records are created, managed and preserved.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the retention & disposal program for records generated by RAS business units.
- Advise on appraisal, classification, transfer and records procedures; respond to internal queries on best practice.
- Analyse data, conduct audits and prepare recommendation reports aligned to Australian laws, policies and standards.
- Create and deliver training to build a positive records management culture across the organisation.
- Investigate, assess and appraise significant records; manage transfer to the Heritage Centre to ensure completeness and long-term preservation.
- Manage Committee and Board minutes across physical and digital collections, including description, discoverability and targeted digitisation.
- Support heritage services and research requests; coordinate outreach, student or volunteer projects as needed.
- Maintain clear documentation and regular progress reporting; contribute to safe work practices and positive team culture.
Hours & flexibility:
This permanent part-time role is 22.8 hours/3 days per week; the attendance pattern is agreed with the Manager, Heritage Centre. Additional hours may be required in the lead-up to and during the Sydney Royal Easter Show and other events.
About You
- Professional archivist/records specialist with excellent written and verbal communication.
- Strong attention to detail, planning and problem-solving; able to prioritise and work productively in a busy environment.
- Collaborative and proactive; builds relationships with staff, Councillors and external stakeholders.
- Physically capable of manual handling and ladder work related to archives storage.
Essential
Qualifications & Experience
- Qualifications in archives, librarianship or records management and/or equivalent experience; eligibility for professional recognition with ASA or RIMPA.
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing a records management program.
- Excellent computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office and understanding of collection management systems.
Highly regarded
- Experience managing records in a SharePoint environment.
Why Join the RAS
Join a purpose-driven organisation with a 200+ year legacy supporting Australian agriculture through the Sydney Royal Easter Show, Sydney Royal competitions, education and community programs.
