About the School
Bwgcolman Community School is a Pre-Prep to Year 12 National Partnership school located on Palm Island, 65km north-northwest of Townsville in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. Renamed in 1993 to reflect the vital role of community in education, the school proudly upholds the motto '2 Way Strong', supporting students to stay strong in Palm Island culture while engaging with the wider world. We prioritise literacy and numeracy, supported by partnerships with QUT, ACU, the Cathy Freeman Foundation and the Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation. About the Role
As Head of Department, you will lead curriculum development in alignment with school and departmental initiatives, support the delivery of the Early Childhood and State Schools Division's vision, and contribute to improving the quality of teaching and learning. The role requires strong curriculum knowledge, the ability to contribute to school-wide attendance and engagement initiatives, and demonstrated leadership capability. You will work within a solid and stable leadership team and be responsible for fostering positive relationships with students, teachers, and stakeholders to support a successful learning environment.

Your Responsibilities
As the Head of Department - Teaching and Learning, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Lead the school department to develop, articulate and commit to a shared educational vision focussed on providing quality learning outcomes for all students.
- Embed socially just practices in daily school life.
- Set high standards for student and staff performance.
- Actively participate in lifelong learning and ongoing professional development.
