About the role
The Senior Policy Officer, Climate Change is responsible for the provision and coordination of high-level advice on policy and legislation relating to environmental management issues with a particular focus on climate change mitigation and adaptation. This involves the planning, initiation and coordination of processes for the review and formulation of environmental policy and legislation, including managing consultation.
About Us
The Environment Protection Authority (EPA) is South Australia's independent environment protection regulator. The organisation works to protect, restore and improve the environment through the risk-based regulation of pollution, waste,noise and radiation. The EPA works closely with industry, the community and government to protect the unique natural environment while supporting economic growth and improving wellbeing. The EPA is responsible for the administration of the Environment Protection Act 1993 (EP Act) and the Radiation Protection and Control Act 2021 (RPC Act) and also exercises responsibilities under other South Australian planning and environmental legislation.

Essential Qualification
There are no essential qualifications for this role however relevant tertiary qualifications such as environmental management, science, or law, or equivalent experience will be well regarded. Knowledge of climate change related policy and demonstrated experience in the development of environmental policy or legislation will also be highly regarded.
Special Conditions
- This role has been designated as a Position of Trust pursuant to the standards required in the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework.
- A current National Police Clearance is essential.
- The EPA supports and actively encourages flexible working arrangements to enable its staff to effectively balance work and life. Such arrangements may be negotiated with the appropriate Manager.
- The incumbent will occasionally be required to travel to sites in country areas and interstate. The incumbent may be required to work out of hours and as the need arises.
- A current driver's license is essential.
Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated ability to critically analyse complex problems and issues, and to develop and evaluate creative responses.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare or coordinate timely and clear reports, briefing papers, draft legislation or correspondence.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare or coordinate timely and clear policy advice.
- Strong time management, organisational and planning skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritise effectively.
- Demonstrated high-level interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively consult, liaise and negotiate with people at high levels across government and external organisations.
- Demonstrated ability to recognise and resolve conflict with tact and impartiality and to negotiate effective outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to both positively participate in and lead project teams.
Remuneration
ASO6 ($98, $104, % Super added to your choice of superfund
Contract
2-Year Contract and Full Time (37.5 hours per week)
