About The Role Of Parliamentary Counsel
The Parliamentary Counsel's Office provides comprehensive legislative drafting services for the Government of Western Australia and drafts Bills required for introduction into Parliament and subsidiary legislation. The position reports to the Director General of the Department.
The strategic function of the Parliamentary Counsel's Office is to ensure that the preparation and implementation of legislation give effect to government policy and priorities, building a better future for Western Australia.
The principal role of the Parliamentary Counsel is to ensure that legislation is drafted for the Government in a professional and timely manner and to provide the Government with independent advice in relation to that legislation.
Intending applicants must have extensive professional experience as a legal practitioner drafting legislation in a legislative drafting office. Leadership, management and interpersonal skills consistent with the seniority of this appointment are essential.
The Parliamentary Counsel is a role requiring exceptional conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills, a strong solutions focus, and a meticulous and precise approach to the work.
To be eligible for appointment to permanent positions in the Western Australian Public Sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent resident status in Australia.
