At Scalapay, we're shaping a culture with high standards, independent and critical thought, innovation, ownership, and continuous learning. We operate in a fast-moving, tech-driven environment, and we're looking for people who thrive in change, think boldly, and take initiative. If you're ready to put your potential to the test in a hiring process designed to spotlight exceptional talent, this is your chance to stand out and grow with one of Europe's most ambitious fintech teams. #MakeItHappen #PlayAsATeam #StayCurious #FocusOnCustomer. The Mission: We're looking for a talented and driven Data Engineer to join our Data Team that's solving complex data challenges in the fintech space. As our business rapidly expands across new markets and product lines, so too does the scale and complexity of our data ecosystem. About The Role This role offers a unique opportunity to help build and evolve scalable, high-quality data systems that support everything from analytics and reporting to real-time operational decision-making. You'll work closely with product managers, analysts, and engineers to design solutions that are robust, maintainable, and optimized for growth. We believe in treating data as a product and applying strong software engineering practices to everything we build. You'll also play a role in the development of internal tools, including natural language interfaces powered by AI, that help democratise data access across the company. What You'll Be Doing Develop and maintain robust ETL/ELT pipelines using dbt, Kafka, and Change Data Capture (CDC) mechanisms. Design and evolve our Snowflake-based data warehouse with a strong focus on dimensional modelling and performance optimization. Automate infrastructure and deployments using Terraform and manage workflows in a cloud-native environment. Integrate data from multiple sources (internal databases, APIs, and third-party tools) with best practices in scalability and security. Support our team's shift toward modular, testable, and well-documented pipelines using software development best practices. Write clean, maintainable code in Python, including internal domain-specific transformations and utilities. Operate within a modern DevOps toolchain, leveraging AWS services such as S3, Lambda, API Gateway, and SageMaker. Contribute to the development and expansion of AI-powered tools, including our internal Slack bot that enables natural language access to data and documentation.

About You 2–3 years of experience in data engineering or backend development roles with strong data pipeline exposure. Advanced SQL skills with proven experience in dimensional modeling and analytical database performance tuning. Experience with Snowflake (or other columnar data warehouses) and data transformation tools like dbt. Solid understanding of data streaming concepts and tools like Apache Kafka and Flink. Familiar with Infrastructure as Code practices, especially using Terraform. Proficiency in Python, ideally with experience building utilities or data-specific libraries. Exposure to AWS cloud services, particularly S3, Lambda, API Gateway and SageMaker. Familiar with software development best practices such as version control (Git), testing, and CI/CD. A problem-solver mindset with a strong focus on delivering business value through data. Must have valid Australian working rights Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or Statistics

Nice to Have Experience working with event-driven architectures and CDC tools like Debezium. Familiarity with orchestration tools (Airflow, Dagster) or alternative job schedulers. Exposure to generative AI applications, frameworks or natural language interfaces in data tooling. Knowledge of data governance, lineage, and cataloging tools.

Why Join Us? Work with a global passionate, collaborative, and experienced team. Help shape and extend our AI-powered internal Slack bot, giving teammates seamless access to data and insights via natural language. Have real impact on how data is leveraged across a fast-growing organization. Be part of a company that values innovation, autonomy, and data-driven decision-making. Grow professionally with training, mentorship, and cutting-edge technologies. Competitive Salary packages including ESOP and onsite parking provided
