About The OPPORTUNITY
We have an exciting opportunity for a Signatures Engineer to join our Hunter Class Frigate Project based at
Osborne, SA
, reporting to the Signatures Team Lead.
We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight and/ or hybrid working.
You will be responsible for working within the Hunter Class Frigate Signatures and Operating Environment Team and provide engineering design guidance and modelling support in the management of ship noise and vibration and radar signatures.
You will support the development and maintain mathematical models with the objective to providing ship signature predictions that inform and influence ship design, in order to achieve contractual requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Work within the Signatures and Operating Environment Team to develop and maintain mathematical models as required for HCF signatures modelling and analysis using a combination of Excel, Matlab and in-house modelling software
- Undertake analysis to identify opportunities for the improvement of ship signature performance and liaise with system design teams to implement design modifications
- Assess supplier design documentation to ensure procured systems are conformant against a wide range of mechanical Wholeship requirements.
- Undertake supplier equipment analysis to validate ship signatures prediction modelling and mitigate against project risk
- Provide support to Engineering Managers and Ship Design Authorities in the development of modelling techniques to improve modelling accuracy and efficiency
- Report on signatures analysis at Project Design Reviews and other technical meetings as required
- Support in conducting on ship build verification noise and vibration measurements
- Review and collate the HCF Operating Environment Requirements evidence in accordance with the agreed schedule and manage the Operating Environment Risks.
- Assist with updating the HCF Operating Environment Equipment Qualification Registers
- Undertake engineering activities using company IT systems in accordance with the Engineering Framework
- Ensure all documents and artefacts generated within own sphere of responsibility are completed and managed in accordance with delivery schedule
- Seek and share good practice and knowledge to continuously improve own practices.
About YOU
- Relevant Engineering/Naval Architecture/Mathematics/Physics degree qualification and satisfying the requirements for membership of the Institute of Engineers Australia
- Meet the requirements for registration as Chartered Professional Engineer with Engineers Australia and preferably be a member of Engineers Australia.
Experience in any of the following areas is desirable:
Commercial or Defence shipbuilding;
- Mechanical design engineering;
- Noise & Vibration engineering;
- Mathematical modelling;
FEA / FEM / MATLAB modelling
Ability to work in multi-disciplinary engineering design teams across the UK and Australia
- Proven problem solving and analytical skills and the confidence to seek advice when unsure of an approach or technology
- Hold Eligibility for Australian Defence Security Clearance.
