The City of Burnside is proud to support a diverse and vibrant youth population, with young people aged 12–25 making up approximately 17.5% of our community. The area is home to several high-quality secondary schools, providing strong educational foundations and opportunities for young people to thrive.
This active youth presence highlights the importance of inclusive, engaging programs that foster connection, wellbeing, and a sense of belonging. At Burnside, we're committed to creating spaces where young people feel supported, heard, and empowered to contribute to their community.
Due to Parental Leave, we are seeking a proactive and community-focused Youth Development Officer to lead the implementation of our Youth Action Plan 2025, a bold and inclusive roadmap co-designed with young people to support their wellbeing, engagement and leadership in our community. This is a strategic position that champions youth voice, drives social impact and builds strong partnerships across schools, community groups and service providers using innovative marketing and engagement approaches.
Key Responsibilities
Continue to deliver key actions from the Youth Action Plan, including:
- Coordinating inclusive, innovative programs and events for young people.
- Strengthening youth participation through consultation, outreach, and engagement.
- Building partnerships with schools, clubs, and organisations to support youth-led initiatives.
- Promoting youth development through strategic planning, research, and evaluation.
- Supporting the visibility and impact of youth voices across Council and the community.
What You'll Bring
- Tertiary qualifications in community development, social sciences, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in youth-focused community development.
- Strong project management, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- A collaborative, forward-thinking approach and a genuine passion for youth empowerment.
The role is offered as a 12-month fixed term, full-time contract commencing mid-November 2025, classified at Level 4 under the City of Burnside Administration Employees Enterprise Agreement 2023.
