Environmental Scientist

The Opportunity

Kleinfelder Australia is a leading environmental consultancy delivering smart, practical solutions across infrastructure, resources, and community projects. We are seeking an experienced Environmental Scientist to join our Townsville team and contribute to high-quality environmental management, assessment, and compliance outcomes.

About the role:

In this role, you will:

  • Undertake environmental assessments, approvals, and compliance monitoring in line with state and Commonwealth legislation.
  • Prepare clear, well-structured reports and documentation for clients and regulators.
  • Conduct and oversee fieldwork, ensuring accurate data collection and compliance with industry standards.
  • Liaise with clients, landholders, contractors, and internal stakeholders to deliver practical, fit-for-purpose solutions.
  • Support project planning, strategy development, and proposal preparation.
  • Contribute to the delivery of environmental impact assessment projects across local, state, and federal frameworks.
  • Uphold Kleinfelder's values of safety, teamwork, accountability, integrity, and respect.
  • Work flexibly from home or client offices.

Based in Townsville, this role offers the flexibility of local autonomy while being fully supported by our friendly Brisbane team, with several colleagues already engaged in remote arrangements.

This is a full-time position; however, part-time arrangements may be considered for the right candidate.

About You

You will bring:

  • A degree in Environmental or a related field.

  • 3-5 years' experience in environmental consulting, assessment and/or compliance monitoring. Preference for candidates with infrastructure experience.

  • Strong technical writing and analytical skills.

  • Practical fieldwork experience and a solid understanding of legislative frameworks.

  • High-level interpersonal and communication skills.

  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and work collaboratively.

  • A positive, can-do attitude and willingness to take on new challenges.

  • Additional desirable qualifications include a current driver's licence, White Card, and First Aid Certificate.
