About the role

We are seeking a team orientated Laboratory Assistant to join our Resource Industries Team located at our Tomago Branch.  

Reporting to the Asset Health Manager, you will support the Laboratory Team with the preparation and processing of fluid samples (testing oil, coolant, and diesel), conducting analytical testing and uploading data as required. The role requires attention to detail to ensure accurate results, maintain laboratory equipment, and support the upkeep of consumable and instrument inventory. Additionally, the assistant helps maintain a well-organised and efficient laboratory environment.

This position is offered as a casual, rostered between the hours of 3pm and 10pm, Monday to Friday, with up to 24 hours per week. This would be suitable for a STEM undergraduate university student.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process all fluid samples in accordance with WesTrac laboratory policies and procedures
  • Maintain accurate Data Entry of sample information into the WesTrac LIMS system
  • Ensure Inventory supplies are consistently available through proactive monitoring and replenishment
  • Ensure company safety procedures and safe working practices, whilst contributing to Continuous Improvement
  • Respond to customer or internal stakeholder requests for support by phone or email

Skills & Experience

  • Science, Technology or Engineering Undergraduate
  • Completed 1st Year of Undergraduate Degree (Desirable)
  • Excellent communication skills – Interpersonal, written and verbal
  • Proven time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities   
  • Dedicated to maintaining safe work practices and environment, with the ability to identify continuous improvement initiatives
  • Experience with a Lab Information System (LIMS) (Desirable)
  • Ability to effectively build and maintain successful working relationships
