JB Foods Pty Ltd trading as The Good Grocer Group, is a leading WA family-owned business within the independent supermarket industry and are currently seeking a dynamic Department Manager to join our Good Grocer leadership team in Karratha on a full-time basis.
About the Role:
As a Department Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient and successful operation of a specific department within our store. You will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of your department, including inventory management, customer service, Team Member supervision, and achieving sales targets. Your leadership, forward planning and strategic thinking will be essential in fostering a positive shopping experience for our customers and in driving the overall success of our supermarket.
We are looking for more than just a retailer; we want passionate individuals with a genuine love for food who can embrace change and support the Store Manager in creating a market-leading offer for the local community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, coach, and motivate a team of department Team Members to deliver exceptional customer service, maintain department standards, and meet performance goals.
- Monitor and manage inventory levels to ensure product availability, minimise waste, and maintain freshness. Implement ordering and stocking strategies to optimise inventory turnover.
- Create a welcoming and customer-centric environment in your department. Address customer inquiries, concerns, and special requests promptly and professionally.
- Oversee the layout, organisation, and presentation of products in your department. Implement merchandising strategies to maximise sales and enhance the overall shopping experience. Implement range and merchandising solutions as directed by the Group Category Manager.
- Ensure the quality and safety of all products in your department. Implement food safety guidelines and best practices to maintain product freshness and compliance with health regulations.
- Work to achieve departmental sales and profit targets by analysing financial data, identifying opportunities for improvement, and implementing effective pricing and promotional strategies.
- Recruit, train, and develop department staff, fostering a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous learning. Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to encourage growth and improvement.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with suppliers and vendors.
- Ensure department compliance with all company policies, safety regulations, and local, state, and federal laws.
Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience as a Retail Supervisor is preferred.
- Strong ability to lead, mentor, and develop a team.
- Exceptional customer service skills and a passion for creating a positive shopping environment.
- Strong merchandising skills with the ability to create visually appealing displays.
- Ability to manage and lead the team and a comprehensive understanding of food safety standards and the ability to ensure compliance.
- Financial acumen and the ability to analyse sales data.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Proficiency in relevant IT systems, including Microsoft Office Suite, and familiarity with retail management software (e.g. Smart Retail, ABCIS).
