Arethusa College is an independent, co-educational school catering for students requiring an alternative to mainstream schooling. We are accredited as a Special Assistance School with located across Southeast Queensland.

We believe in providing an alternate approach to education for students where previous schooling in a mainstream setting has not been successful due to social, emotional, physical, educational, family or situational difficulties. The College provides education which is innovative and meets the needs of each student, some of whom have learning difficulties and disabilities.

The Role

The Head of Cleaning is responsible for maintaining a professionally presented, safe, and hygienic environment across campuses including leading a team of cleaners.

The Head of Cleaning reports directly to the General Manager, Corporate Service. It is a cross-campus role and will involve some out of hours work.

Responsibilities will include:

• Overseeing and managing all cleaning staff;
• Overseeing and managing all external cleaning contractors and contracts;
• Ordering and stocking of cleaning consumables.
• Reporting and recording maintenance issues
• Reporting and recording hazards
• Adhering to cleaning protocols and schedules with a commitment to safe cleaning processes including correct use of cleaning products and chemicals
• Understanding of Safety Data Sheets and chemical labelling protocol
• Any other task that would reasonably fit under the responsibilities of a Head of Cleaning

Selection Criteria

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Asset Maintenance - Cleaning Services (desirable)
• Understanding and commitment to Workplace Health and Safety Legislation and regulations to reduce the risk of harm to self and others relative to the role of a cleaner
• Current Queensland driver's licence

Experience

• Experience managing multi-site cleaning
• Experience managing teams
• Training in safe use, proper storage, and disposal methods of cleaning equipment and chemicals
• Experience working in a school environment (desirable)
• Experience in manual handling tasks

• Ability to be proactive, organise the workload to meet deadlines, and be adaptable in response to changing priorities
• High attention to detail
• Self-motivated and ability to identify and complete tasks without direct supervision
• Ability to comprehend written and verbal communication
• Be physical fit and able to do repetitive lifting, pulling, bending, pushing and walking.

• Familiarity with software and devices

A valid Working with Children Paid Blue Card is required for this role.
