About the School

Mackay Northern Beaches State High School is located 10km from the centre of Mackay in the growing Northern Beaches area of Mackay. The school opened in January 2013 and boasts modern facilities with the very latest state-of-the-art technology embedded across the curriculum. Mackay Northern Beaches SHS has a strong house culture and has Positive Behaviour for learning (PBL) embedded in the ways of working across the school. The school is seeking a dedicated Head of Department to join the progressive Leadership team for 2026.

About the Role

This Head of Department - Mathematics position is suited to an energetic and future-focused individual who has the ability to continue growing the mathematics faculty, not only to influence positive student learning outcomes but also to identify opportunities for student participation in external mathematics-based programs. Their practice should have a strong curriculum focus (both junior and senior levels), especially linked to the rollout of AC V9. A clear line of sight to the Senior Mathematics subjects will also be vital.

As the Head of Department - Mathematics, you will possess solid strategic practices for managing resources to achieve the outcomes mentioned above. The successful applicant for this position will demonstrate strong relational and curriculum knowledge capabilities to ensure effective leadership across the faculty, as well as contributing to the leadership of whole-school strategic initiatives.

Your Responsibilities

As the Head of Department - Mathematics, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Lead the school department to develop, articulate and commit to a shared educational vision focussed on providing quality learning outcomes for all students.
• Embed socially just practices in daily school life.
• Set high standards for student and staff performance.
• Actively participate in lifelong learning and ongoing professional development.
• Form partnerships with students, parents, other government agencies, and community groups.
• Be futures oriented and strategic.
• Understand the legislation and policies that impact on schooling especially in relation to students and staff within the school department.
• Manage the human, financial, facilities and curriculum resources of the school department to achieve goals
