Automation Analyst - Performance

The Role: As an Automation Analyst - Performance, you will be a vital part of our Performance Test Team, focusing on enhancing the quality, consistency, and usability of Auto & General's systems. You'll contribute to our Performance Framework, defining, scripting, and executing performance tests to ensure our applications meet both specification and customer journey requirements for rapid, scaled delivery.

Your New Team: You'll join the dynamic Test Team within the Technology division, a crucial part of Auto & General's commitment to high performance and integrity. This team is dedicated to ensuring the quality and reliability of our applications, working collaboratively to deliver smarter solutions and safeguard a brighter future for our customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute performance test cases for all A&G applications using chosen scripting languages in collaboration with developers.
  • Adhere to performance best practices and coding standards to ensure tests are reusable, scalable, and maintainable.
  • Collaborate with Test team members (Test Analyst, Performance Analysts) on reviewing test cases for performance readiness.
  • Increase knowledge and understanding of application functionality, business rules, and customer journeys to improve performance.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines that provide performance and timely feedback on application quality.
  • Work with the performance lead and technical teams to identify performance enhancement opportunities in environment setup, configurations, and deployments.
  • Produce comprehensive performance test reports, including defects, to ensure transparency and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Triage performance test failures with test team members.
  • Contribute actively to the Test Community of Practice, sharing advancements and best practices in test performance.
  • Champion a 'Performance First' approach to testing, collaborating with developers and test analysts.
  • Ensure adherence to Organisation Testing practices.
  • Provide on-call assistance and onboarding support as required.
  • Develop and maintain performance frameworks and supporting documentation.
  • Explore AI-based tools for performance testing, engaging in proof-of-concept activities to determine value and feasibility.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • A degree in Information Technology or a related field from a recognised tertiary institution, or equivalent qualifications/experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience as a performance engineer.
  • Demonstrated sound communication skills, effectively engaging with technical staff, end-users, and management.Proven experience in Java, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of performance frameworks, such as Load Runner, JMeter, Gattling or K6.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with service virtualisation.
  • Familiarity with AI tool identification and implementation for testing.
  • Knowledge of other scripting languages, such as Python.
  • Experience developing Java plugins.
  • Understanding of AWS Kubernetes.
  • Affiliation with Technology Institutes.

Essential:

Qualifications, Education & Training Requirements

  • A degree relating to the Information Technology field from a recognised tertiary institution or other qualifications or experience considered acceptable by Auto and General.

Experience

  • Min. 3 years as an performance engineer
  • Demonstrated sound communication skills, including with technical staff, end-users and management.
  • Demonstrated experience in Java, Javascript and Typescript
  • Demonstrated knowledge of performance frameworks - Cypress, Playwright, Selenium, and others

  • Experience with CI/CD and version control platforms - Bamboo, Bitbucket and GitLab/Hub

  • Experience building / extending performance test frameworks
  • Demonstrated sound skills in problem solving, time and resource management, and have the ability to work independently and with limited supervision.
  • Pragmatic and resilient to change.

Desirable: (if applicable – relevant to the position, which an applicant may have or which can be developed), prior experience with:

  • service virtualisation
  • AI tool identification and implementation
  • other scripting languages such as Python
  • developing java plugins
  • AWS kubernetes
