We are seeking a Positive Behaviour Practice Leader to join our Children's Services and Early Intervention Team in Wodonga. We provide social learning for children and teens by engaging in programs that develop skills in a social environment. Our team of skilled and dedicated practitioners offers a range of activities that are fun, tailored to each child's individual interests and aim to build meaningful friendships. Programs are run at our purpose-built facility at Moorefield Park that includes acrobatics, circus arts, sensory and movement room, kitchen, and small group inside and outside spaces.

The position of Positive Behaviour Practice Leader is a senior leadership role and is responsible for the development of individual and group programs that focuses on the assessment and design of individual skill development and services to support people with disabilities.
The programs are designed to build their capacity to lead a good life that is rich in belonging and supports the active engagement and ongoing skill development of people with others in their communities.
As a Senior Behaviour Manager this position contributes to the ongoing learning and development of staff who work alongside people with disabilities and their families and supports a capacity building outcomes focused approach to positive Behaviour Support.
The position has been created to empower and support children and adults with a disability and/or additional needs, their families, staff and their immediate environments to maximise their:

- Build Positive relationships within the community.
- Contribute to the ongoing learning development and staff to provide quality service delivery.
Job Purpose
The Positive Behaviour Practice Leader will deliver individualised strategies for people with disability that are responsive to the person's needs, in a way that increases quality of life, reduces the occurrence and impact of behaviours of concern and minimises the use of restrictive practices.
"Our number one goal is to improve people's quality of life by using the principles of positive behaviour support and always use the least restrictive option: increasing the capacity of all Connextions staff and the wider community, through education, culture and support in understanding the principles of positive behaviour support and current best practice".
Key Responsibilities
The key roles of this position include but are not limited to the following:
- Developing individualised strategies for people with disability that are responsive to the person's needs, in a way that reduces the occurrence and impact of behaviours of concern and minimises the use of restrictive practices.
- Assisting staff, NDIS participants, their families, and other decision-makers to understand the NDIS Commission's behaviour support function.
- Focusing on the development of person-centred interventions to address the underlying functions of behaviours of concern or challenging behaviours, while safeguarding the dignity and quality of life of people with disability who require specialist behaviour support.
- Planning and Delivering behaviour support approaches that comply with the NDIS Quality and Safeguarding Framework, NDIS Behaviour Support Rules 2018 and WH&S legislation.
- Undertaking functional behavioural assessments to develop behaviour support plans containing evidence-based, proactive strategies that meet the specific needs of the person displaying behaviour of concern.
- Developing, overseeing and ensuring behaviour support plans meet both clinical and NDIS requirements in consultation with the person with disability, their family, medical practitioners, allied health professionals, carers and other relevant people and service providers who will be implementing the plan.
- Ensuring staff are appropriately trained to implement positive behaviour strategies or use restrictive practices.
- Provide best-practice advice to all Connextions staff in relation to behaviour support.
- Facilitating planning and training events using approaches that promote team development, person centred thinking and positive behavioural support to develop individual plans and practical strategies leading to life enhancing outcome.
- Following up on reportable incidents that suggest there are unmet behaviour support needs and make recommendations for implementation to address accordingly.
- Lodge behaviour support plans that contain regulated restrictive practices with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.
- Developing, monitoring and actioning individualised risks plans to mitigate incidents and hazards.
- Ensure services are delivered within the framework of Connextions policies and procedures, legislative requirements, and meet the relevant service standards.
- Assist in the quoting process for behaviour support to ensure there is adequate funding to deliver quality behaviour support functions.
- Keep records of billable hours to claim effectively.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities, as outlined in the Connextions Positive Behaviour Support Policy and Procedures as directed by the Manager or delegate.

For success you will have:
- Tertiary qualification or currently studying either Psychology / Occupational Therapy / Social Work / Special Education and/or Developmental Disability or have at least 5 years' experience developing / overseeing behaviour supports as outlined in the Positive Behaviour Capability Framework.
- Experience providing services to people and children with disability with complex behaviour needs.
- Clinical knowledge and expertise in providing functional behaviour assessments and demonstrate comprehensive behaviour support planning skills.
- Experience in providing clinical and/or functional behaviour assessment, intervention and support in the disability related services, education settings and/or special education
- A working knowledge of the NDIS Commission Behaviour Support Rules and relevant disability legislation.
- A sound knowledge of best practice positive behaviour support, evidence-based approaches and trauma informed practice.
- Commitment to improving the quality of life of people with a disability and demonstrated passion to reduce restrictive intervention.
- Solid understanding and working knowledge of issues facing people with disabilities and their families.
- Highly developed communication skills including community and stakeholder engagement, as well as a professional level of oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, train and promote expertise within multidisciplinary team and ensure a seamless continuum of care between services.
- Demonstrated capacity to creatively challenge accepted practice.
- Computer literacy – (intermediate level) – Microsoft Office, and relevant client management software. High levels of accuracy and attention to detail.

- Current First Aid Certificate including CPR.
