Join the Australian Women and Girls' Health Research (AWaGHR) Centre — a multidisciplinary team dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of women and girls throughout their lives.
We're seeking a Data Engineer to help underpin the Centre's research operations by developing secure, efficient systems and processes that enable participant recruitment and data collection.
As part of the Centre's data support team, you'll work closely with data managers and analysts to ensure the integrity, security, and accessibility of research data across a range of studies.
Key responsibilities will include:
Design and maintain databases to support participant recruitment, verification, and tracking, including automation of project communications.
Develop secure systems for managing personally identifiable information in line with legislation and ethics and generate de-identified datasets for analysis.
Implement and uphold high data security and integrity standards, including the use of Trusted Research Environments and adherence to institutional data governance policies.
Build and customise data collection tools in REDCap or similar platforms, ensuring alignment with study requirements and user needs.
Train, support, and collaborate with project staff to use developed systems, extract data, and maintain high data quality across studies.
Contribute to the ongoing improvement of the Centre's data infrastructure, including maintenance of databases, websites, documentation, and the adoption of innovative and efficient data engineering practices.

Salary packaging options
Completion of an undergraduate degree Data Science, Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education.
Demonstrated experience in database development, data management, and automation in a research setting.
Demonstrate strong understanding of privacy and information regulations pertaining to health and medical research data, including record linkage and requirements for using health administrative records from government agencies.
Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining database documentation, including user manuals and maintenance logs.
Highly developed organisational and time-management skills, capable of independently managing multiple priorities simultaneously, meeting deadlines, and maintaining meticulous attention to detail.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to train and support non-technical staff.
Proven ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
Ability to identify opportunities for system improvement and implement innovative solution, as well as strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including right to work in Australia.
