About the role
Are you a Legal Assistant or Law Clerk or currently working in the courts, looking to make your next step? This is your opportunity to make the move for your career. We also welcome all experienced Paralegals to join our Disputes & Investigations practice group, specialising in Recoveries, in a permanent, full-time position. The group covers a range of legal services in the areas of banking and commercial litigation and corporate and personal insolvency recovery, representing some of Australia's largest retail, commercial and agribusiness banking and financial institutions.
Working as part of an established team of Paralegals and Lawyers, this position is responsible for end-to-end file management in the areas of mortgage collection and secured debt recoveries.
Your responsibilities
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Assessing instructions and managing all actions relating to opening, progressing, closing, and archiving of files
- Ensuring matters are conducted and progressed in accordance with specific client and legislative requirements and procedures
- Liaise with clients and Mortgagors/Mortgagors' representatives via email, telephone and on site appointments;
- Recommend resolutions to clients to achieve appropriate conclusion of matters
- Drafting a wide range of legal documents for the litigation process and/or the property sale process, including Claims, Statements of Claim, Default Judgement documents, Settlement Statements, Deeds of Settlement, Contracts, Warrants, and Letters of Demand
- Preparation of non-legal correspondence letters
- Manage internal and external diary scheduling
- Maintaining various internal systems and platforms
- Conduct bankruptcy/company/title searches
- Identify risks, issues or concerns that may arise on matters and escalate to Partners or Solicitors as appropriate
Previous experience using Aderant and iManage would be advantageous.
About you
To be considered for this role, you will be able to demonstrate:
- Two years litigation/recoveries paralegal experience or relevant transferrable experience would be advantageous
- Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents and government regulations relating to area of practice;
- Proven ability to manage files end to end
- Strong organisational skills and enjoy collaborating with other team members in a fast-paced environment
- Positive and enthusiastic in all that you do and willing to take on new things and challenge yourself.
- Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to liaise with a range of different internal and external stakeholders
- Self-motivation with the ability to multi-task and meet strict deadlines
- Strong attention to detail
- Customer-centric approach
- A proactive and flexible attitude
