Indigenous Shared Services Group is looking for an experienced Manager Health and Safety to partner with our Operations and Clients and drive our safety culture and improvements in safety performance.

Indigenous Shared Services Group provides comprehensive shared corporate and business services to Aboriginal businesses that co-invest, pool and share resources to help Aboriginal individuals, families and communities trade, invest and work together to create a self-determining economic future.

This role plays a key part in delivering expert workplace health and safety services, driving safety culture, leadership and continuous improvement.

This is a permanent full-time role based in South Perth with travel to site and operations as needed to be able to drive meaningful improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a fit-for-purpose, contemporary WHS Management system in line with legislative requirements and best practice
  • Influence and drive the WHS strategy and internal action plan to design, build and deliver relevant initiatives and programs that empower managers, supervisors and workers to engage with WHS in a positive way.
  • Provide specialist advice and support to managers and senior leaders on complex WHS issues to ensure they meet their due diligence requirements under the WHS legislation
  • Build, foster and influence effective working relationships and communication with internal staff, external providers and other key stakeholders.
  • Promote integration of risk management into planning and delivery of operations, services and contracts
  • Support operations with the management of site-specific health and safety risks, ensuring appropriate controls are implemented and corrective actions are completed
  • Conduct internal annual safety audits and participate in external auditing programs and relevant safety assurance programs/activities.
  • Proactively identify trends and recommend corrective actions and strategies to Leadership focused on injury prevention, risk and injury reduction and employee wellness
  • Monitor safety performance across operations against KPIs and recommend improvements
  • Oversee the end-to-end injury management process, including reporting, assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and return-to-work planning.

About You

Ideal Candidate will meet the following job requirements:

Qualification

  • Tertiary qualification in Work Health and Safety
  • Certificate in Auditing or similar is desirable
  • ICAM trained/certified is a desirable
  • Certification IV in Training and Assessment is a desirable

Experience

  • At least five years' experience in a similar role with extensive experience in an operational mining environment

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies

  • Proven experience in leadership roles
  • Extensive experience working with workers' compensation, risk management and incident investigations
  • Have outstanding skills with the Microsoft suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Operational knowledge of STEMS safety system is desirable
  • Previous knowledge working with safety systems and reporting

  • Ability to influence and implement strategic and cultural change
  • Demonstrated substantial skills and experience in providing high-level advice, management and strategic direction in the assessment and management of WHS risks.
  • Strategic thinking and ability to translate strategic goals into practical improvements
  • Excellent communication, coaching and interpersonal skills to influence safety culture
  • Solutions focused, proactive and self-motivated
  • Keen interest in continuous learning and improvement and commitment to quality of service, outputs and outcomes
  • Flexibility to travel to mine sites as required
  • Current Australian Driver's Licence
