The Data Center Engineering Operations role at AWS is a hands-on position within our Internal Maintenance Team in Sydney. Working with world-class infrastructure, you'll be responsible for maintaining critical mechanical systems across our data center facilities. This dynamic position offers extensive exposure to advanced cooling technologies and mechanical systems, with clear pathways for career development and technical growth. The role suits an enthusiastic self-starter who demonstrates strong initiative and embraces continuous learning in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.
Key job responsibilities
Mechanical Systems Maintenance
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on critical cooling infrastructure including HVAC systems, pumps, and fans
- Maintain industrial water treatment plants
- Conduct equipment performance monitoring and testing
Reactive Maintenance
- Respond to and troubleshoot mechanical system issues
- Perform emergency repairs when required
- Implement temporary and permanent fix solutions
Operations Coordination
- Work with operations teams to schedule and coordinate maintenance activities
- Track and document maintenance work across multiple data center designs
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation
Technical Collaboration
- Participate in engineering initiatives and improvement projects
- Contribute to technical solutions and system optimizations
- Engage with global teams on standardization efforts
Safety and Compliance
- Implement and enforce safe work methods
- Create and implement Risk Assessments
- Comply with all AWS safety standards and procedures
A day in the life
At today's large-scale data centers, you will be involved in:
- Performance and oversight of maintenance and operations mechanical and cooling equipment within the data center.
- Assist in troubleshooting of facility equipment including specialized cooling systems, Industrial water services and other physical infrastructure
- Coordinating with operational teams to ensure facility uptime is maintained
- Scheduling, planning and tracking all planned and reactive maintenance across Sydney
- On-site management of contractors, subcontractors and vendors, ensuring that all work performed is in accordance with established practices, procedures & local legislation
- Participation in specialized performance testing of data center equipment

Basic Qualifications
- High school or equivalent diploma
- Electrical or mechanical journeyman license
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of operations and on-call support for data center facilities, mission critical plants, or production facilities experience
