How You'll Make a DifferenceCRDVS is looking for a full-time Child and Youth Worker (Embedded YETI Worker) based in Cairns, QLD.
This role is embedded within Youth Empowered Towards Independence (YETI), a youth-specific community organisation. It reports to CRDVS and plays a critical role in delivering trauma-informed support to young people impacted by DFV, who may otherwise not seek traditional help.
More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Providing crisis intervention, safety planning, and case management for young people experiencing DFV
- Delivering trauma-informed emotional support and counselling to young people with complex needs
- Collaborating effectively with YETI and key external stakeholders, advocating for young people in legal, housing, and safety matters
- Maintaining accurate and timely client records, case notes, and reports in accordance with policies
- Navigating challenging client behaviours with empathy, resilience, and regulation strategies
- Preserving client and peer relationships while standing firm in safety-focused DV advocacy
- Promoting empowerment, safety, and hope to a vulnerable and high-needs youth cohort
This is an 18-month fixed-term contract (until June 2027), with potential for extension subject to funding and organisational movement.
What You'll Bring to the TeamTo qualify, you will need a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Youth Work, Community Services, or a related discipline. You will also bring practical experience working with children or young people, gained through youth organisations, residential services, community programs, or similar environments.
An understanding of domestic and family violence and its gendered nature will be essential. While deep specialisation in DFV can be developed over time, you must be able to engage with the complexity of this work, hold professional boundaries, and prioritise safety in all practice.
Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:
- Qualifications or training in domestic and family violence, trauma‑informed care, or crisis intervention
- Experience working with high‑risk or marginalised young people, including Indigenous young people, young people who identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community and/or who come from other diverse backgrounds.
- Exposure to embedded or cross‑organisational service delivery models
- A strong understanding of youth development, trauma, and emotional regulation
- High‑level interpersonal and written communication skills
- The ability to remain calm, grounded, and professional in challenging or emotionally charged situations
As our ideal candidate, you would be warm, approachable, resilient, with competence around a domestic and family violence specialist skill set that provides appropriate supports to victim-survivors and a number of key stakeholders.
This is a role for someone who is hopeful about young people, comfortable with complexity, and motivated to make a meaningful difference. You will bring professionalism, consistency, and follow‑through, acting as a steady and trusted presence for young people experiencing significant trauma.
Be RewardedYour compensation will align with the SCHADS Level 5 classification, offering a competitive full-time salary of $100,000 – $105,000 plus superannuation, and a host of excellent benefits, including:
- Salary packaging benefits of up to $15,900 to increase your take-home pay
- Additional leave loading
- Ongoing professional development opportunities
- Relocation assistance is considered for the right candidate
- A collaborative work environment across CRDVS and YETI
- Opportunities for contract extension, internal mobility, or transition to other CRDVS services (subject to funding and organisational movement)
- A meaningful, community-connected role making a genuine difference to the lives of vulnerable young people
This is a rare opportunity to work full-time in an embedded, trauma-informed support role within a youth-specific service, backed by the specialist expertise of a leading DFV organisation.
