About The Role

We're looking for experienced Heavy-Duty Diesel Fitters to join our Whyalla maintenance team. You'll carry out diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on mobile plant and heavy equipment—ensuring reliable operations that support critical mining and industrial processes.

Hands-on and safety-focused, this role involves working closely with the Maintenance Manager and team to boost equipment availability and drive operational efficiency.

Key Duties:

  • Maintain and repair mobile plant and heavy vehicles
  • Diagnose faults in diesel, hydraulic, and mechanical systems
  • Complete accurate work orders and records
  • Support preventative maintenance programs
  • Source and replace parts
  • Uphold workshop cleanliness and safety
  • Follow set maintenance schedules
  • Respond to alarms and incidents safely

What You'll Bring:

  • Cert III in Heavy Vehicle Diesel Fitting (or equivalent)
  • Strong mechanical skills and initiative
  • Safety-first mindset and good communication
  • Self-motivated with a team-oriented attitude

Desirable

  • Experience with side tippers, FELs, and mining/industrial mobile fleet
  • Knowledge of maintenance systems and schedules
  • Basic computer and numeracy skills

About Us

Liberty Primary Steel operates the historic Whyalla Steelworks, approximately 400km from Adelaide. The integrated facility which includes ironmaking, steel making, and rolling-mill facilities is Australia's only manufacturer of special grade billet and steel long products providing solutions for nation-building infrastructure including rail. It is also the future home of green steel with plans to construct an Electric Arc Furnace and Direct Reduction Iron facility fed by natural gas and hydrogen.
