Lead Data Engineer

Location: ACT

Contract: 12 months + 2 x 12-month extensions

Clearance: NV2 required

We're looking for a high-impact Lead Data Engineer to join a large Federal Government agency and play a key role in transforming their data warehouse into a modern, cloud-based analytics platform powered by Microsoft Fabric.

This is your chance to work on a mission-critical program in a highly skilled team, delivering technical solutions that shape how data is collected, integrated, and used to support critical national objectives.

What you'll do

  • Lead the management and optimisation of SSAS, SSIS, and SSRS reporting environments.
  • Help drive the upgrade of an on-premises data warehouse to Microsoft Fabric in the cloud.
  • Work with a wide variety of data sources (REST APIs, Excel, JSON, Parquet, Delta).
  • Design and develop data pipelines, architectures, and integration solutions.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to produce clear documentation for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Champion DevOps practices with tools like Azure DevOps and Git.

What we're looking for

  • 7+ years' experience in a similar Data Engineering role.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Fabric, Synapse, or Data Factory.
  • Strong SQL/T-SQL skills.
  • Experience with data warehouses, data lakes, and lakehouses.
  • Ability to integrate and analyse diverse datasets in complex environments.

Bonus points if you have:

  • Python or PySpark skills.
  • DAX and Power Query M experience.
  • Traditional ETL/ELT and report development skills (SSIS, Power BI, SSRS).
  • Machine Learning deployment experience.
