Melbourne Pathology is one of Victoria's largest diagnostic pathology laboratories, committed to providing high quality healthcare throughout metropolitan Melbourne, regional Victoria and interstate.

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Grade 2 Scientist to lead our evening operations in the Microbiology Department. As the Evening Supervisor, you will oversee the evening team, ensuring timely, accurate, and high-quality microbiological testing in compliance with laboratory protocols and regulatory standards.

Position requirements:

• Supervise and co-ordinate a large team of laboratory assistants and scientists
• Ensure all tests are performed in accordance with standard operating procedures and accreditation standards (e.g. NATA, ISO or equivalent)
• Monitor workflow to ensure timely turnaround of results
• Provide technical guidance and support to junior staff
• Perform and validate a range of microbiological tests
• Responsible for maintenance and effective operation of multiple laboratory instruments and ensuring documentation is completed to required standards
• Escalate issues and report evening shift outcomes to senior scientists or management
• Responsible for staff training, competency assessments and ongoing education
• Excellent organisational skills, time management and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and manage priorities under pressure
• Foster a culture of safety, quality and continuous improvement.

Qualifications and experience:

• An AIMS accredited Bachelor's degree Majoring in Medical Microbiology/Medical Laboratory Science
• Minimum of 5 years' experience in a diagnostic microbiology laboratory
• Prior supervisory or shift coordination experience (preferred)
• Proficiency with LIS systems and general computer skills
• Familiarity with quality systems and regulatory standards in microbiology.
