Primary objective

Drive system wide development, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based initiatives to engage disengaged and at-risk

children and young people in education through data driven and collaborative inter and intra agency partnerships.

Context statement

Student Attendance and Engagement Programs and Services is responsible for the implementation and management of a range of

Australian and Northern Territory Government initiatives focused on raising student attendance and engagement.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Lead a multi-disciplinary team that works in partnership with schools, community, government agencies, youth court and allied

health services to re-engage e young people back into education using a case management framework.

2. Provide professional expertise and strategic and operational advice into the development and implementation of initiatives to

engage disengaged and at-risk children and young people back into education and learning.

3. Provide high-level operational advice to support officers with policy, program and case management decision making.

4. Provide high level strategic advice in the design, delivery and evaluation of programs and initiatives that relate to raising school

attendance and engagement in education and learning.

  1. Approve agency led recommendations to the Youth Court, Defence and Prosecutor, taking into consideration the statutory

regulations and the young person's circumstances, family and school history.

  1. Provide high-level advice on matters relating to student engagement, including enrolment, attendance, mobility and

participation data and analysis including trends and insights.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated senior experience in designing and implementing policy and programs aimed at raising school attendance.

2. High level understanding of the issues associated with student engagement, wellbeing and inclusion in the NT.

3. Demonstrated ability to effectively work with partners for service delivery in student data management, including a working

knowledge of good practice data governance, data policy, tools and collection processes.

4. Demonstrated experience in applying contemporary theory and best practice in respect to flexible education program

development and management, including the preparation and planning of complex reports and submissions and negotiation of

recommendations.

  1. Demonstrated high level working knowledge and understanding of relevant local and national policies and developments in

relation to attendance, engagement and flexible education aimed at supporting and re-engaging vulnerable and at risk children

and youth.

  1. Demonstrated high level working knowledge of contemporary flexible education programs including knowledge of curriculum,

pedagogy and understanding of relevant international, national and local educational contexts.

  1. Demonstrated and current working experience in the implementation of Education Act, Youth Justice Act, and Care and Protection

    of Children Act legislative requirements and providing complex policy and compliance advice to others.

Desirable

1. Post-graduate qualifications in leadership/management or speciality practice area.
