The role:

At Equinix our Critical Facilities Engineers operate, manage, maintain and repair critical and non-critical Power systems, HVAC, plumbing, fire control and suppression, and all site services, and performs all related vendor support in a mission critical environment.

Due to an internal move (employee promoted to different site within the business), we have a fast-paced role supporting the overall functioning of our SY6 Data Center  based at Silverwater focusing on maintaining and improving the facility's critical infrastructure. This includes all regularly scheduled maintenance and ad hoc repairs/troubleshooting.

The role will suit candidates with an engineering mindset looking to build or continue a career within the industry. This is not a senior role, so training and development will be available to the selected candidate but an understanding of UPS, ATS generators, chillers, AHU, CRAC and CRAC units and similar critical infrastructure will be highly advantageous.

Mission critical, commercial, or industrial experience is preferred particularly within a hands-on service role, and the position will initially have a large focus on fire and security systems, whilst you develop experience and confidence with all electrical and mechanical site infrastructure over time. We have a diverse team from different engineering backgrounds who work across streams (electrical/mechanical/controls) in a collaborative atmosphere, so teamwork and a positive attitude are a must.

Strong vendor management and administration skills and experience will be required and we are looking to interview immediately for the role.

Key responsibilities:

Facility infrastructure/maintenance:

Performs routine preventative and corrective maintenance on-site to critical facility components and/or systems.

· Shadows senior engineers and develop their expertise in regards to more complex repairs, maintenance, installations and on-site inspections to critical facility systems.

· Monitors the Builiding Monitoring System (BMS) and resolves alarms for specialized ssues requiring considerable judgement and implications to resolve; follows guidelines on standard procedures and makes recommendations for solutioning.

· Operates and maintains plumbing, fire suppression, and life-safety systems.

· Implements energy efficiency measures.

Vendor management:

Coordinates and directs vendors on skilled tasks to ensure that maintenance activities are carried out per standards and requirements.

· Assists with the creation and submission of scripts for maintenance.

· Tracks and implements the work approval process for service providers for critical maintenance (including briefing at the start of work, control of work during the day workday/shift, final review of the work carried out).

· In cooperation with the vendors, changes/updates technical files for plants and equipment ensuring files and builds are up-to-date.

Site admin and incident support

Performs site logs and data gathering for issuing of permits, such as Maintenance Operation Protocol (MOPs) and scripts (this will be learned and developed over time)

· Identifies Single Points of Failure and makes recommendations for solutions.

· Responds to all on-site incidents, including failures, significant problems and delays.

· Performs Root Cause Analysis and make recommendations for solutions.

· Supports the on-site staff during incidents.

· Demonstrates and supports processes and procedures are followed and adhered to.

Work orders and additional support

Completes skilled work requests and circuit installations

· Performs basic troubleshooting and maintenance of office equipment (if necessary); supports auxiliary equipment and machines with problem solving and repairs to avoid/minimize downtime.

· Makes moderate changes to mechanical, electrical and specialized systems, as directed.

Collaboration:

· Collaborates with others to resolve difficult facility incidents.

· Informs stakeholders of inventory needs to maintain optimal stock levels of critical parts and equipment, may support in coordinating processes for maintaining inventory.

Qualifications, key skills and experience:

Strong understanding of a mission critical environment

Trade or Degree Qualifications relevant to Engineering

Electrical/Mechanical background with view to picking up more complex work over time

Vendor management and coordination

Team player and collaborative mindset and ability working well with different people at various levels of skills and experience

Ability to maintain information, adapt to new environment and training
