The Infrastructure Operations (Data Center) team is the backbone of AWS, supporting the business and customers 24/7. We are committed to maintaining the physical infrastructure of AWS, ensuring operational performance in safety, security, availability, productivity, capacity, efficiency, and cost.
We are looking for a Data Center Engineering Operations (DCEO) Engineer with experience in critical facilities management, a results-driven individual with strong technical (electrical/mechanical) understanding and the drive to advance data center engineering operations. The role reports to the DCEO Manager and is responsible for sustaining availability, cost management, risk assessment and mitigation, and maintenance of critical infrastructure with metric reporting.
Key responsibilities- Participate in a 24/7 rotating shift pattern
- Support routine maintenance and emergency service for critical systems (switchgear, generators, UPS, power distribution, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, building monitoring systems, fire systems, etc.)
- Installation of new rack capacity and provisioning of power and cooling
- On-site management of contractors and vendors, ensuring work aligns with established practices, procedures, and local legislation
- Establish performance benchmarks, conduct analyses, and prepare documentation of critical facility operations and maintenance; manage facility assets
- Generate change management requests and incident tickets for facility-related events and assist in issue resolution
- Collaborate with data center IT managers and business leaders to coordinate operations, manage capacity, and optimize safety, performance, reliability, sustainability, and efficiency
- Drive and implement projects to increase facility capacity, efficiency, sustainability, and reliability; assist in design, commissioning, and build-out of new data center facilities
- Work schedule changes depending on site needs; shifts are 12 hours and rotate on a predefined schedule
- Assist in troubleshooting facility and rack-level events within SLAs
- Perform rack installs, decommissioning, and facility management
- Provide operational readings and KPIs to ensure uptime
- On-site management of contractors, subcontractors, and vendors in line with practices and local legislation
- Maintain and operate electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center
- 4+ years of relevant work experience in facilities management, maintaining a data center or other critical space facility
- Ability to prioritise in a complex, fast-paced environment
- Experience with, awareness of, and adherence to physical security protocol
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline, or technical (military/trade school/TAFE) degree with 4+ years of data center management/engineering/operations experience
- Strong understanding of data center electrical and mechanical systems (e.g., DRUPS, Transformers, Generators, Switchgear, UPS, ATS/STS, PDUs, Chillers, AHUs, CRAC units)
- Experience in mission-critical facility management for a large enterprise or large Colocation provider
- Vendor/contractor management for construction, maintenance, and upgrades in large-scale critical environments
