About the role

Want to Try Before You Buy? Are you ready for a change but are hesitant to move in case its not what you thought it might be? I have staff who work one day a fortnight up to 9 days a fortnight. This allows us the unique opportunity to allow you to work for a few days around your current position to see whether we are the right fit for you (Paid of Course).

We are looking for an experienced Optical Dispenser.  I am looking for a vibrant person who loves dispensing. This position would suit someone who wants regular or casual work in a modern independent practice.  Mature applicants are welcome to apply.

This is a part time position to the right person.  It would suit someone who wants a lighter workload with some flexibility.  It involves 1-5 regular days of dispensing work in a vibrant practice.  We have modern equipment and beautiful frames.

About Specs Optometrists is a independent practice in the busy Orion Shopping Centre of Springfield. We are open 7 days a week. We practice a full scope of Optometry including, eye health, contact lenses and children's vision. You will enjoy giving your customers high quality frames and lenses for that individual look and personal need.

What you require to work for About Specs Optometrists:

• Happy friendly attitude - enjoy working with customers and the rest of our team.
• Some dispensing knowledge.  Experience is valued – I would encourage mature applicants to apply.
• It is an advantage, if you have worked in private practice especially in a Provision or Eyecare Plus practice.
• We use Optomate Touch in the practice, however any optical software experience will allow you to learn this software.
• We are a 7 day practice – some weekend shifts may be required, but this is on a rotational basis.  Currently the role would be mainly weekdays.
• All suitable candidates considered.  Part-time or Casual position will be available to the right applicant.

Skills and experience

• While a Certificate in Optical Dispensing is not required, dispensing experience is required and highly valued. We are happy to expand on your knowledge from previous Optical dispensing roles to help you learn the newest lens designs and skills required in our practice.
• We use Optomate Touch. We can help you transition to this software if you are unfamiliar with Optomate Touch.
• Staff assist the Optometrists by taking retinal photographs and scans and visual fields as required.  Training is available for new staff members unfamiliar with these machines.

The job involves:

• making appointments, checking people in for examinations.

• assisting Optometrists with pre-testing.

• helping customers choose the correct frames and explaining lens choices.

• ordering spectacle jobs and contact lenses.

• checking spectacle jobs are correct and talking to labs about changes that may be required.

• Dispensing, fitting spectacles to customers and explaining their glasses will work on collection.

• Cleaning and disinfecting the practice to ensure a safe workplace for staff and customers.

• Helping with behind the scenes tasks within the practice.
