About QATSICPP
The Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Protection Peak (QATSICPP) is the peak body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child protection and youth justice for all children and young people in Queensland. QATSICPP works to influence policy, build sector capacity, and advocate for culturally strong, community-led systems that uphold the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people, families, and communities in the child protection system and for all children and young people in the youth justice system.
About the role:
The Senior Practitioner provides specialist advice and practice oversight to ensure culturally safe, high-quality child protection and family support services across Queensland's community-controlled sector. This role supports practitioners through supervision, coaching, and reflective practice, while promoting consistent and culturally responsive approaches. The Senior Practitioner works collaboratively with community-controlled organisations, QATSICPP staff, and external partners to strengthen practice and improve outcomes for children, young people, and families.
Key Duties and Responsibilities Include:
- Provide professional guidance to strengthen the quality and consistency of practice within the community-controlled child and family services sector.
- Facilitate reflective practice and group supervision sessions to build practitioner capability and confidence.
- Provide oversight and assist with advice on complex case matters, ensuring culturally strong and evidence-informed decision-making.
- Contribute to the development of practical resources, tools, and frameworks that promote safe and high-quality service delivery.
- Support service delivery and promote culturally strong, community-led responses for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.
- Facilitate and participate in sector forums, workshops, and networks to share knowledge, promote consistency, and build capability.
- Monitor, review, and evaluate practice approaches to identify areas for improvement and ensure alignment with QATSICPP's strategic and legislative requirements.
Professional Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree and/or postgraduate qualification in a related field, or extensive experience in child protection practice.
- Proven experience in child protection and family support practice, with the ability to provide guidance, supervision, and mentoring to practitioners.
- Strong knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, communities, and issues impacting children and families.
- Demonstrated ability to engage with children, young people, and families with diverse and complex needs using a culturally safe, strengths-based, and safety-focused approach.
- Strong knowledge of child protection systems, practice frameworks, and legislative requirements.
Mandatory Requirements:
- Current Queensland Working with Children's Card (Blue Card) or eligibility to apply.
- Ability and willingness to travel across Queensland and other states as required.
- Current Queensland Drivers Licence.
