Financial Lines Underwriter

This opportunity is with Miramar Underwriting Agency, a general insurance underwriting agency that provides business insurance solutions tailored to the client needs of general insurance brokers. As a wholly owned subsidiary of Steadfast Group Pty Ked, we act on behalf of a number of insurance companies in Australia and internationally. About the Opportunity

As a Financial Lines Underwriter, you will be responsible for underwriting new and renewal business across Professional Indemnity, Management Liability, and related products. You'll work closely with brokers, contribute to portfolio growth, and support the team in delivering high-quality underwriting decisions. This role offers the opportunity to deepen technical expertise and develop toward a senior underwriting career path.

Key Responsibilities

• Underwrite Financial Lines risks in accordance with underwriting guidelines and delegated authority.
• Assess and price new business and renewals, ensuring alignment with portfolio strategy.
• Support broker relationships through responsive service and clear communication.
• Assist in identifying new business opportunities and contribute to retention efforts.
• Maintain accurate underwriting records and ensure timely policy issuance.
• Participate in team discussions and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with senior underwriters on complex risks and referrals.
• Stay informed on market trends, regulatory changes, and competitor activity.
• Support internal projects and initiatives as required (e.g., system enhancements, product reviews).

Skills and Qualifications

• 2–5 years' experience in Financial Lines underwriting or a related insurance role.
• Working knowledge of Professional Indemnity, Management Liability, and/or D&O products.
• Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
• Ability to manage time effectively and prioritise tasks.
• Commercial mindset with attention to detail.
• Progress toward or completion of relevant insurance qualifications (e.g., ANZIIF).
• Exposure to Lloyd's market or binder arrangements.
• Experience working with brokers or intermediaries.
• Interest in automation, underwriting technology, or process improvement
