About the Role:

We are seeking an Underwriter to join Tokio Marine?s Japanese Business team in Sydney.

As the Underwriter, you will work closely with the Underwriting Operations Manager and Head of Underwriting (J-Business) and Reinsurance in supporting matters related to underwriting policies, renewals, policy endorsement and pricing.

Utlising your underwriting experience, you will review and approve evaluations and policy documents in the system after ensuring the accuracy of the information and the inclusion of relevant clauses / exclusions.

This role emphasises client underwriting across multiple classes such as Property, Liability, Marine, Motor, and Financial Lines. As the underwriter, you will oversee a range of policies for each client, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the client?s business operations and overall risk exposures, ultimately supporting more effective risk management for the client.

You will help foster a collaborative environment within the team where learning and knowledge sharing is encouraged and be a mentor to the less experienced members of the team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Quote new business opportunities and renewal in accordance with organisational guidelines and underwriting criteria.
• Build and maintain relationships with brokers to best serve the interests of the organisation.
• Preparation and processing of new and renewal policy documents, policy endorsement and certificates.
• Liaise with the finance department regarding reconciliation of premium payments.
• Source facultative reinsurance directly and through brokers in relation to individual client policies.
• Hold an ability to work across multiple types of insurance whilst being proactive in relation to sourcing timely expert advice in unfamiliar situations.
• Be an active member of the division in order to support attaining its strategic and commercial goals by ensuring high rates of policy retentions at technical rates where possible, while ensuring high levels of client satisfaction.

As a Champion Underwriter for the allotted line of business:

• Obtaining timely and crucial market information, sharing with the team.
• Provide consultation to Underwriter?s who require further development in relation to information and experience of their particular line of business.
• Work with internal stakeholders on pricing, strategy and policy terms and conditions.

About You:

You will have:

• 2-5+ years? underwriting experience in general insurance preferably across one or more of multiple product lines such as Property, Liability, Marine, Motor, and or Financial Lines is particularly valued.
• Strong technical insurance and Australian regulatory knowledge.
• Expertise in underwriting assurance frameworks and process analysis.
• Experience in process development, documentation, and improvement.
• Advanced skills in Excel and other internal systems.
• Strong analytical, communication, time management, and project management skills
